Carrollton, Texas

Ramona Ann Huffman, 83, of Carrollton, Texas, passed away peacefully to eternal life with her Lord on July 7, 2026, with her daughter by her side.

Ramona was born to Raymond and Annette (Pittman) May on November 18, 1942, in Roscoe, Texas. She and her older brother, Donald, grew up in Hermleigh, Texas, on their family’s cotton farm. She attended Hermleigh High School, where she played basketball and graduated as class valedictorian. During high school, she met the love of her life, Jimmy Huffman, in Snyder, Texas. After high school Jimmy went to Texas A&M and Ramona went to Texas Tech. But after dating long-distance for a year and a half, they decided to elope. Ramona returned to finish the school year at Tech before moving to College Station to be with Jimmy. At Texas A&M. Ramona was among the first women to take classes at the all-male university as a student’s spouse.

In 1964, the couple moved to Irving, Texas, where they raised their two children and they were very active at Plymouth Park Baptist Church where Ramona was a beloved volunteer in the church nursery for many years. After moving to Carrollton in 1995, they joined Prestonwood Baptist Church and were active in the life groups Kingdom Seekers and the Disciples.

Ramona completed her education at the University of Texas at Dallas in the late 1970’s, receiving a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She managed the accounting and business for Jimmy’s company for many years. Eventually, she joined Criswell Development Company, where she became comptroller on the project that built 60-story Fountain Place on Ross Avenue, forever changing the Dallas skyline. She then worked for Raymond Nasher during the development of the Nasher Sculpture Gardens. Ramona rounded off her career working for Sandford Properties in Decatur for many years and never really retired. She continued working part-time from home right up until her death.

Anyone who knew Ramona, whether through work, church or her children’s friends, spoke of her sweet but tough nature as she battled Rheumatoid Arthritis for over 50 years. She always gave her best in everything she did and downplayed her own difficulties. Her favorite activities were Bible study, reading mysteries, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She was especially proud of her three great-grandchildren, two girls and a boy.

Ramona is survived by daughter Pam Michel and her husband Matt; granddaughters Mackenzie McLeod (husband Turner) and Madison Goodchild (husband Jarrett); three great-grandchildren, cherished cousins, a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews and greats, and many friends, both old and new.
