Phyllis Jean Robinson

September 10, 1929 — February 18, 2019

Phyllis Jean (Wint) Robinson, age 89, passed away on February 18, 2019. She was born on September 10, 1929 in Frederick, Oklahoma, the first daughter born to Glenn and Emma Lane Wint.

Phyllis Robinson’s Story as remembered by her son Mark

Mom was raised during some difficult times of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl years, but always said they had food to eat and a home to live in.

The family lived in Hollister, Oklahoma for a period after she was born and moved out to the family farm when her father built the house at that location in 1944. I recall Mom telling of her life on the farm, taking care of chickens and rabbits, which she enjoyed; but she hated milking cows. Mom loved going to school and was a good student, she played basketball and graduated high school in 1947. There were only nine students in her graduating class.

She never learned to swim and always had a healthy fear of water, which is exactly opposite of her son who could not stay away from it, sorry Mom.

After High School she moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and attended Draughons Business College. After graduation she went to work for Whites Auto Stores Offices in Wichita Falls for George Adams.

In October of 1949 she met an Air Force Sargent, Jack Robinson who was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base. It took a bit of work to get her to go out with him but he finally did get a date. Six months later they got married; so she must have grown to like this guy in a hurry. On March 4, 1950 they had their wedding ceremony in the house where she grew up. They were happily married for nearly 69 years.
Mom liked to travel and by getting married to an Air Force guy she got to do a lot of traveling. In 1954 they were sent to Finchingfield England and lived there for 3 years. This was a great experience for them. They traveled all over England; to London many times and over to France on several occasions.

In 1957 they returned to the States and were assigned to Amarillo AFB in Amarillo, Texas. In March of 1958, their son, Mark was born. I can tell you God could never have given me better Mom and Dad. They always loved me and it was always their aim for me to have a blessed life. Thanks Mom, love you so much.

In 1960 they moved to Richards Gebour AFB in Belton, Missouri. This was close to home for Dad and we had great times with the family that lived around the Kansas City area. In 1964, we were off as a family, to Ramstein Germany. For the first few months we lived off base, which meant you better learn some German in a hurry. Living in Germany gave the opportunity for us to travel to places like Switzerland, Holland, France, Belgium, and all over Bavaria Germany.

In 1967 we returned to the states. Dad retired from active service and we moved to Frederick, Oklahoma, but stayed only briefly and moved to Burkburnett, Texas and set up more permanent roots.

Mom always led an active life, and a lot of her life revolved around serving in the church. She served many years as the Children’s Director at First Baptist Church of Burkburnett and also was employed by the church as an office administrator. She spent a total of 26 years at Burkburnett taking care of her mother and grandmother in their later years. She also served many other families and friends there.

In 1994, with son Mark working in Dallas, they made the move out to east Texas to Holly Lake Ranch. They both will tell you it was their favorite place to live out of anywhere they had been. They enjoyed times with friends and also serving at Holly Brook Baptist Church.

With the onset of Alzheimer’s, Mom and Dad moved to Plano, Texas and then over to Allen, Texas to be close to their son. I am so glad they did, we shared great moments and times together. I am so blessed to have had my Mom; she gave so much of herself to serving others and took wonderful care of her family. We will miss you Mom.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years, Jack Robinson, her son, Mark Robinson (wife Linda), of Allen, TX, her sister, Joy Charleston of Charlton, MA, her brother, Jimmie Wint, of Alpine, TX, and many dear family and friends.

The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, February 23, 2019 from 1:00-3:00 P.M. at Allen Family Funeral Options. At 2:00 we will pause for words of reflection and celebration of Phyllis’ life.

She will be laid to rest Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 1:30 P.M. at Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas.
