Phillip Edward Loncar, age 83, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022. He was just shy of his 84 th birthday.
Phil was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Frank and Virginia Loncar on May 29, 1938. He and his baby sister, Julianne were born 6 years apart and were raised in the Kansas City area. Phil went to Shawnee Mission High School, where he played football and was part of the theatrical production of Brigadoon.
He graduated from University of Kansas, with a business degree and was forever a true Jayhawk. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi when he met the true love of his life, his wife Susan Ulrich; a sweet Gamma Phi who became his best friend and wife of 63 years.
He embarked on a career in Chemical Sales, working for Univar Solutions USA, Inc. and was Area Vice President of the entire West Coast while living in California. Sue and their children followed Phil as he moved his way up the ladder living in ten different states and owning ten homes.
He retired from Univar at the age of sixty, back in Kansas City where it all began. He loved his family, golf, KU Basketball, cooking and taking Sue on cruises. His first year in retirement he shot three holes in one and was an incredibly happy man! He enjoyed teaching both his son Brian and his grandson Nick to play golf and often played on the very best courses, such as Pebble Beach. Phil also attended the Masters Tournament several times.
Just as he succeeded in his career, Phil was successful in life. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was an amazing husband, father, brother and grandfather and friend to many.
His children Jillian, Brian and Elizabeth felt his support and involvement in many of the activities in their early years. He was a Boy Scout leader, a coach and active in the high school parents’ board. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Plano and very devout in his faith.
Phil and Sue would plan many summer family vacations and continued to travel a lot after retirement. Always front and center at his grandchildren’s sports and theatrical plays and their biggest fans. They each knew he had a soft spot for each of them and would give in easily to their whims.
Phil is survived by his wife Susan; two daughters Jillian Loncar-Brade and Elizabeth Ralston; daughter in law Sue Loncar; grandchildren Hailey, Nicholas, Abby, Hunter, Bailey and his sons’ stepchildren David, Patrick and Sally; sister Julie Paradise. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian Loncar and granddaughter Grace.
