Paul D. Wood

July 27, 1945 — October 13, 2022

Paul D. Wood, 77, of McKinney, Texas, passed away unexpectedly at his home of a cardiac event, on October 13, 2022. Paul was born July 27, 1945, in Denver, Colorado; he was the son of the late Russell and Clara (Eigenman) Wood.

Paul graduated from Alameda High School in Colorado, June of 1963. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed in San Antonio he met the love of his life, Kathy B. Wood. They were married in 1966. Paul served eight years in the Air Force playing in the Air Force Band. His military life took them to Hawaii where their first child, Kacy, was born. A few years later in Dallas their second child, James was born, completing their family of four.

Once out of the military, Paul pursued his love of music and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dallas Baptist University and later a Master of Music from Southern Methodist University. Much of Paul’s career was spent in foodservice sales and operations for almost 30 years working for such companies as Shasta, Sunshine Biscuits, Tennessee Pride Sausage, Decker Foods and IBP Foods.

Retirement was not part of his vocabulary and the last seventeen years he had spent working as an insurance agent and financial advisor.

Paul was beloved by his family and all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband, father, and Pops. The love that our parents had for each other was such a beautiful gift to witness. Kathy would always say that Paul was a true Renaissance man. There was nothing he could not do and if he did not know how to do something he figured it out and found a way. He could fix anything and did often. He loved his family very much and would do anything he could for us.

One of his biggest passions was music and playing the oboe. He played for many groups over the years. Attending his concerts was something we all loved to do. What we would not give to attend one more concert. We are heartbroken in this sudden loss but knowing they are together again brings us peace.

Paul’s loving wife of 56 years, Kathy, predeceased him by 9 months. He is survived by his daughter Kacy Oden and husband Marshall; son James Wood and wife Michelle; grandchildren, Collin Jones, Xanth (Kate) Oden, Aki Wood, and Kai Wood; Paul’s sister Della Reither and many wonderful nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who loved him dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2022, at Christ United Methodist Church, 3101 Coit Rd., Plano, Texas 75075.
