Patricia (Pat) Hollister was born on November 25, 1924, in Anderson, Texas to parents Travis Winston and Annie Mae (Jackson) Jennings.
The Woman Behind the Man. Oh that statement is so true of our Mom! She encouraged and praised our Dad through his Bachelors and Masters degrees. She should have received credits for the papers she wrote!
Mother returned to the workforce in the early 60’s as a substitute elementary teacher. Full time teaching happened quickly and her favorite students were 3rd graders! Soon she completed additional college classes which enabled her to teach special ed students. In 1983 she was named Teacher of the Year for Almeda Elementary School.
Mom became “D-Mommy” at an early age! A grandmother role she truly loved! All four grandkids can tell stories of getting lost in Houston with D-Mommy! Before cell phones, D-Mommy would use a pay phone to call D-Daddy to redirect her to the museum, park, zoo, or wherever!
Flowers were mother’s therapy! At Willow Meadows Baptist Church, Houston, mother coordinated a group of members who gathered on Mondays to make multiple arrangements from the Sunday altar flowers. Then they would deliver an arrangement to members in the hospital, nursing home, and/or ill at home. Mother glowed with love and happiness as she volunteered.
Mom so enjoyed Treasured Times at Custer Road UMC! She attended their fun loving once a week program for 3 years. The day before she would select her outfit and coordinating shoes! A big thank you to Dinah Ligon, Mom’s loving buddy!
Yes, D-Mommy was her happiest sitting on the ground by a flowerbed and giving it her tender loving care.
