Pat Miller

April 10, 1952 — May 5, 2022

Pat was born on April 10, 1952, in Amarillo, Texas, to Ray T and Virginia (McKnight) Miller. He often explained himself by saying, “I’m from Potter County.” He and his family moved to Carrollton, Texas, when he was in high school. Pat had an encyclopedic knowledge of all things Texas, particularly its geography, history, and scandals.

He graduated from Sam Houston State University where he majored in Business and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He worked in the commercial finance industry and retired from Wells Fargo Equipment Finance in 2017. He loved to point out cranes by make, model, and owner, and helped finance heavy equipment that built much of the skylines across Texas. Pat was an avid reader and particularly enjoyed true crime and history. He devoured the newspaper every morning and kept up with industry news after his retirement. Also following retirement, but while his wife Carol was still working, he would make her lunch every day and take a little bite out of her sandwich as his trademark. He loved to cook and never followed a recipe. When he seasoned things, he would say he was going to "doctor it up." He had a propensity for adding hot sauce and jalapeños to just about everything. He also enjoyed landscaping and kept fresh flowers in the house just for Carol.

In his youth, he rode motorcycles and briefly flew airplanes, and he loved to sail and waterski. He remained physically active and would go to the gym or ride his bike almost every day. He enjoyed playing golf and would take his only daughter, Sara, along with him when she was young and let her drive the golf cart—even after she drove it into a building. (It wouldn’t be the last time he helped her after she wrecked a vehicle.) He was friendly and gregarious and made friends everywhere he went. When Sara would go to the gym with him when she visited home, he knew everyone there and they would always comment about how much he talked about her.  During the pandemic, he and Carol rescued a dachshund they named Cooper. They truly saved his life and helped him evolve from a fearful and anxious puppy to a content and joyful family member.

Pat was much loved and will be dearly missed. He was such a good man and an unwavering source of strength for his family. He was wise and kind. He was truly, and sometimes unintentionally, hilarious and had a beautifully unique way of phrasing things. Pat was persistent, determined, and practical and liked to tell Sara to "get her head in the game" and "take care of business." He was always planning and took such good care of his family.

Pat unexpectedly passed away at his home on May 5, 2022.

Left to honor his memory are his wife of 38 years Carol (Robenstine) Miller; daughter Sara Leslie Miller; brother Dennis Miller and his wife Pamela (Harrison) Miller; sister Michalyn (Miller) Dunn; nephews Mat, Daniel, Aaron, Andrew, Kyle, and Tray; niece Allie; and his dachshund Cooper Miller and grand-dachshund Hansel Miller.

A memorial service to honor Pat’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Allen Family Funeral Options, officiated by Pastor Robert Matthews.
