Olivia Derczi was born on March 6, 1915 in Rosia Montana, Romania, to Iosif Miheles a miner and Otilia stay-home-mom raising 9 children. Olivia passed away on Wednesday September 19, 2018 at her family home in Plano, Texas. Olivia was 103 years old and 6 months.
When Olivia was 12 years old, she started her first job working as telephone operator. After early passing of her father, she was adopted by Ana and Ladislau Derczi. She was home schooled while she continued working as a sales clerk and graduated high school. She was a proud owner of her specialty grocery store that she lost with the change in Romanian government.
With hard work and a lot of experience, she started working as a retail store General Manager for many years up until her retirement. She devoted her retirement years carrying for her family that meant everything to her.
Being honest, dedicated, funny, quick-witted and an extremely good cook and great pastries baker, Olivia used to indulge everyone around her with unique, authentic, very creative sweets, and unforgettable delicious food that made her legacy.
Beside little English, Olivia spoke and read fluently Romanian, Hungarian and some German.
Olivia (Oli Mama), an affectionate mom with a profound kindness and infinite love for her family and friends, is survived by her adoptive daughter Sia (Ciry) Derczy and grandchildren Esther and her husband Jason Evans, George Kenneth Pardy and his wife Megan, nephew Radu Marcea and his wife Mihaela, nephew Arthur Fabian and his wife Simona with their daughter Ananta, adopted niece Irina and her husband Chris Bryson with their son Alex.
Olivia was preceded in death by her biological parents, adoptive parents and by her eight siblings: Alexandru, Cornelia, Josif, Stefan, Zoe, Beniamin (Mikey) and Elvira. Her youngest brother Bobbi passed away less than one day after Olivia left this earth peacefully to start another amazing journey.
The family will have a Celebration of Life on Saturday September the 29th from 11:00 AM at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2112 W. Spring Creek Pkwy Plano, Texas 75023.
She will have a place in our hearts forever, will be always loved and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her so dearly. We believe she is now our precious angel that will continue to watch over us. God rest her in peace!
