Ofelia Whitcomb

July 22, 1943 — March 19, 2026

Frisco, Texas

Ofelia Whitcomb (née Briones), a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Frisco, Texas, on March 19, 2026.

She was born on July 22, 1943, in Weslaco, Texas, to parents Manuel and Elvira (Guerrero) Briones. One of seven children, Ofelia, was raised in Plymouth, Indiana.

Ofelia dedicated much of her life to caring for others. In her early years, she was a novitiate with the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate in Joliet, Illinois. She later worked as a nurse in Indiana, North Carolina and Texas for over 30 years, touching countless lives with her strength and compassion. In retirement, she continued her role as a caregiver by lovingly providing childcare for her grandchildren. In 2015, Ofelia and her husband relocated to the Dallas, Texas area, where she remained close to her growing family.

In September 1973, she married Michael W. Whitcomb, her lifelong partner and best friend. Their 52-year marriage was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and steadfast support through every season of life. Together, they built a home centered on family, resilience, and deep devotion.

Ofelia found joy in the simple things—tending to her garden, keeping a well-ordered home, watching Hallmark movies and The Golden Girls, and, most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a special love for her cat, George, whom she adored and spoiled.

Ofelia is survived by her beloved husband, Michael W. Whitcomb; children Michael Scott (Donna) Whitcomb, Jacqueline (Tracy) Drewry, and Samantha (Robert) Ficke; grandchildren Ashley (Jason) Yim, Sarah (Chris) Schaeper, Daniel Whitcomb, Ethan Ifert, Alexander Ifert; great-grandchildren Luke and Noah; siblings, Belia Hetfield and Jose Briones. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2026, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Frisco, Texas. For those unable to attend in person, the Mass will be available via livestream:

Ofelia will be laid to rest immediately following the Mass at Ridgeview West Memorial Park in Frisco, Texas.
