Norman Dale Crump

February 9, 1942 — March 12, 2021

Norman Dale Crump, 79, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 12, 2021 after a 16-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Norman was born on February 9, 1942 in Dallas, Texas to Clifton Grady Crump and Belma Jewel Whitaker-Crump. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1960 – that same year he earned a Congressional nomination to the USMA West Point. After much consideration, however, Norman chose to attend Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He earned his BS in Electrical Engineering in 1964 and was named Eta Kappa Nu Outstanding Senior in Engineering. Norman continued his studies at Georgia Institute of Technology and earned his PhD in electrical engineering in 1969. He spent the entirety of his career working for ARCO oil and gas company, retiring at the age of 50. Upon retirement, Norman served as a math professor at The University of Texas at Dallas.

Norman was a true family man, always putting others above himself. He married the love of his life, Paula Jenkins-Crump, on December 18, 1964. The couple had two children, Kelly in 1968 and David in 1970. Those who knew Norman knew that he loved his family beyond measure. One of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather. He spent countless hours with his grandchildren – entertaining them, mentoring them, and supporting them in a myriad of interests.

An avid cyclist, Norman participated in many rides across Texas and Oklahoma. In 1995 he spent three months riding from Portland, Oregon to Washington D.C. His children have often joked that Norman’s main motivation for the three-month stint was the freedom to eat copious amounts of junk food away from the watchful eye of his health-conscious wife. When he wasn’t cycling, Norman enjoyed golfing and traveling. He was a long-time member of Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano, where he was active in the Empty Nesters Sunday school class.

Norman is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Paula Jenkins-Crump of Dallas; children – Kelly White (Josh) of Leander, Texas and David Crump (Missy) of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren –Colton, Hailey and Logan White, and Michael and William Crump; brother – Glendon Crump (Sammie); and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Custer Road United Methodist Church, 6601 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023.
