Nita Mae Caruso

September 16, 1942 — July 30, 2023

Nita Mae Caruso (Moore), age 80, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023, in Plano, Texas. She was born on September 16, 1942, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to parents Paul and Nita (Mickey) Moore. She had a smile and energy that lit up every space she entered.

She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. Family meant everything to Nita, and she took great pride in telling everyone that met her all about her beautiful family. Nita and her husband were married while stationed in Vicenza, Italy, in 1967 and just recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. They had two children, a daughter Tracy, and a son Paul.  After moving several times through her husband's time in the Army, life eventually brought the family to Plano, Texas, where Nita has lived for the past 48 years.

In her early years, Nita discovered her passion for all things dance. This eventually led to Nita owning and operating her own dance studio. She taught dance for decades in Louisiana, Texas, and several Army bases throughout her time as an Army wife. Her passion for teaching dance would lead her to her future career as a preschool and special education teacher.  At age 57, she fulfilled a live long goal of graduating college with a degree in early childhood education. She had a natural gift of connecting with students and took great pride in finding new and creative ways to meet each student's learning needs.

She was always volunteering her time and was actively involved in her children’s life. Nita was a Girl Scout leader and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. Later in life, she was a very active member of the Dazzling Darlings Red Hat chapter for the past decade.

Nita is survived by her husband Hank (Henry) Caruso of Plano, Texas; her daughter Tracy Gohlke and her husband Owen of Lakeville, Minnesota; her son Paul Morse-Caruso and his wife Wendy of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; her four wonderful grandsons Evan Gohlke, Nate Morse-Caruso, Brodie Gohlke, and Ian Morse-Caruso; and many extended family members and friends.

A funeral service for Nita will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas.  Nita will be laid to rest immediately following the service at the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County at: https://www.caccollincounty.org/
