Nana Yaw Owusu, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend went to be with the Lord peacefully on August 1, 2024, at the age of 56, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 8, 1968, in Kumasi, Ghana to Mr. Mark Owusu and Mary Osei Owusu.
His formative years were spent in Tafo, Eastern Region at the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) where his father worked. Nana’s passion for reading enabled him to excel academically. He completed his primary education effortlessly and proceeded to Tema Secondary School in 1980, where he made many long-lasting friendships.
After completing high school, Nana left for the United Kingdom for a few years and later to the United States to further his education. He attained his college degree from McCurry University in Abilene, Texas. Nana’s passion for reading enabled him to gain considerable knowledge in several subjects, ranging from history and politics to cooking and popular culture. He was therefore capable of contributing confidently to any discussion on various topics. He was always in good spirits when arguing his opinions in the company of others. Most of his friends thought he should have run for public office as he was exceptionally good at expressing himself and presenting his views.
Nana always put the needs of his family and friends first. He was known for his kindness and compassion towards others. Nana’s genuine and generous heart touched everyone who met him. Entertaining people was always an important aspect of Nana’s life. His annual Christmas parties brought a lot of happiness into the lives of his friends in the Ghanaian community, which in return made him happy.
He was a devoted husband and father. Nana and his loving wife Olivia have known each other for decades. They met when they were both very young. Nana’s family rented one of Olivia’s family’s houses. The home they rented was right next to Olivia’s family’s house. Nana with his friendly and warm personality quickly became friends with Olivia and her brothers. Their friendship blossomed, and they eventually got married in 1993. They have been blessed with four handsome boys, Denzel, Dylan, Drake, and Dalton. There is no doubt that Nana’s pride and joy was the life he built with his family; his wife Olivia and their four boys. His love for his wife and children was evident in the sacrifices he made to see them happy. His warmth, love, and light will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Nana Yaw is survived by his dear wife Olivia Owusu, his children; Denzel Nana Kwaku Owusu, Dylan Nana Kwabena Owusu, Drake Nana Kwasi Owusu, and Dalton Nana Kwabena Owusu, and many siblings, cousins, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, in-laws and friends.
