Nadine White

September 27, 1931 — February 26, 2023

Wanda Nadine White, 91, died on February 26, 2023, at Grand Brook Memory Care in Allen, Texas.

Nadine was born on September 27, 1931, in Clovis, New Mexico to Joe Elvert and Mildred Maurine (Bell) Caywood. She graduated from high school in Elida, New Mexico in 1948 and attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. She married Robert E. White, Jr. in Portales on September 3, 1950. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in Garland, Texas in 2000. They were blessed with 4 children: Robert Edward III, Constance Diann, Thomas Samuel, and Margaret Suzanne.

Nadine and Robert farmed near Portales until 1960 when he went to work for the State of New Mexico. They helped found the Portales Society for the Development of Exceptional Children and worked with Robert’s parents to secure land for it. Nadine was a member of the Eastern Star and served as Mother Advisor in Portales and Clovis.

They moved to Garland, Texas in 1985 where she lived until 2015 when she moved to Allen. While in Garland, Nadine was an active member of St. Phillip’s United Methodist Church.

She was a very creative person who made quilts, sewed clothes, painted and played the organ. Nadine liked to bowl and was involved in a league for several years. She enjoyed going on trips all over the country with friends. Nadine enjoyed gardening and served on the landscape committee with her husband, Robert, in their townhome community for many years. She was a very caring person who often sought ways to be of service to others, such as providing food and transportation for those who were sick or in need. She had a deep love for her children and grandchildren and some of her happiest moments were when she could spend time with them and share her wisdom through life experiences.

Friends have said that Nadine brings to mind "The Wife of Noble Character" described in Proverbs 31 and ends with "Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Proverbs 31:31 (NIV).

Nadine is survived by her son Robert Edward III and his wife Patricia of Ankeny, Iowa, daughters Constance Diann (White Fitchhorn) de Leon of Las Vegas, Nevada and Margaret Suzanne (White) Bellinghausen and her husband Tom of Plano, Texas. She is also survived by brothers Larry and Joseph and a sister Phyllis; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, son Thomas Samuel, parents, sisters Dorothy, Mildred, and Virginia, and son-in-law Donald.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Grand Brook Memory Care for their dedicated care of Nadine.
