Myrna Orihuela was born on September 29, 1946 in New Orleans. She was a bright child who started school when she was 3 and graduated high school when she was only 16. However, being exceptionally smart does not equal common sense. Myrna never hesitated to make a fool of herself and had an uncanny habit of saying inappropriate things at the most inappropriate times. Eventually, she was assigned the code word “inna” as a signal to be quiet. One day she called St. Agnes church to ask what time 12 o’clock mass began. Another time she skipped class and inadvertently ended up going to her classroom to study, surprising her teacher and classmates.
Myrna was an excellent clothing designer and very creative. In her later years she would spend countless hours at Joann’s and Michaels craft stores. In fact, she would stay so long she would be kicked out not only by employees but also escorted out by officers as well. Another great joy was scrapbooking, she loved to endlessly browse paper and stickers. She meticulously worked on her layouts. Once Luis, her husband, laid an entire tile floor in the time it took her to finish a single 2-page layout. She loved any color as long as it was pink.
Myrna was a notoriously bad cook, yet she collected cooking supplies and gadgets and often watched the cooking channel. One time, after much study, she boiled an egg and the egg evaporated! Her culinary specialties were popcorn and macaroni.
Her highest aspiration as an adult was to sit on the sofa. After much hard work she achieved this goal and spent her time watching fox news. Like her husband, she thoroughly enjoyed arguing religion and politics with anyone who would take the bait.
Though she had a rough childhood and life at times Myrna had a great faith in God. She knew that no matter what God who would provide in any situation. She worked hard to instill this faith in her children and grandchildren. She cared deeply for others and always sacrificed to protect and provide for them. Some of her last words were to “Trust in God”.
Myrna Orihuela is survived by her loving children Kristen Files and husband Jace, Kevin Orihuela, and Kenny Orihuela; grandchildren Ashlyn, Noah, Autumn, and Aili Files and Sara Ayala; Sisters Sandra West, Judie Orihuela, and Lisa Babin. She shared special bonds with many aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Luis Orihuela, and parents Pedro Juan and Hilda Iris Orihuela.
