Mulenga Clara Muyoba

May 25, 1967 — January 1, 2022

Mulenga Clara Muyoba-Guyer was born on 25 th May 1967 in Livingstone, Zambia, being the second born daughter to Lt. Col. Henry Muyoba and Mrs. Godfrida Kasonde-Muyoba. She went to Glory on 1 st January 2022 after a sudden death.

She did her primary education at Lusaka Girls Primary School and proceeded to Roma Girls Secondary School for her junior secondary school and completed her senior secondary education at Kabulonga Girls Secondary School in Lusaka, Zambia. Following the completion of her secondary school education, she enrolled at the Zambia Institute of Management (ZAMIM) in Lusaka, Zambia for her tertiary education where she successfully completed a course in Purchasing and Supply and immediately thereafter began her career in the private sector within Lusaka.

Having an entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to leave formal employment and began running her own businesses in Zambia, the last one being a successful bar and restaurant called “No limits” before travelling to the USA in 1999, to visit her elder sister Dr Prisca Kasonde, who at that time was studying and leaving in the USA. She decided to make the USA her home and has never looked back. From the time she settled in the US, she worked as a CNA until she decided a few years ago to go back to doing what she liked – running her own business. She was CEO of the Jafrida group homes that she was running until her death. Her clients and workers loved her….

Mulenga is survived by a husband, Irvin Guyer; two beautiful daughters, Chiwala (Chichi) and Mukatimui (Mukie) and eight wonderful grandchildren whom she adored and would do anything for them! She has also left behind a father and five siblings.

Mulenga as a wife, mother/grandmother, sister/cousin, aunt, niece, in-law – she loved her family with all her heart. She was such a “peoples’ person” that her home was always filled with people and laughter all the time - both in Zambia and in the US. She was always quick to “cook up a storm” whenever she had visitors and what a good cook she was – whether it was cooking traditional Zambian food or indeed international cuisine!! When in Mulenga’s home, one would be sure to enjoy a sumptuous meal! Her elder sister Prisca always said she ate more nshima in Mulenga’s house when visiting her in the US than she eats in her own home in Zambia – this is how much Mulenga loved “akabwali” with her kapenta/fish/ifisashi/ifishimu which she would “down” with her beer!!

She was not just a good cook but was also an excellent events planner/manager and caterer. She was always on hand to plan, decorate and coordinate events such as bridal or baby showers and weddings, in Pittsburgh and most recently Texas and even in other towns around the US. Her décor at such events was always breathtaking!! She had such good talent in that area and of course many other areas as well.

Mulenga was such a generous soul – whether family or friends and she had no boundaries when it came to giving to others. As long as she heard of a need, she was usually the first one to give financial and emotional support to others, even if it meant giving the only money she had. Whenever someone she knew travelled to Zambia, she always sent things for everyone!! Family in Zambia always looked forward to receiving those suitcases full of clothes, shoe and toys.

Bana Mukie loved her music and loved to dance even though she really could not dance!! She always said she had two left feet in as far as dancing is concerned. She would listen to the “oldies” all the time and always said she does not understand this “new music.”  She was the life of the party! No dull moment with her!

Mulenga was a mother to many, both in Zambia and the US. Despite the physical distance to people in Zambia, she made them feel loved and appreciated and was always encouraging her sisters/nieces/nephews to aim to do better despite the odds being against them. Of course, being human, she was not perfect and indeed we have had our fair share of differences with her, but these were usually resolved, and we continued living happily as family and friends.

She was a strong woman who always stood for what she believed in and would not be intimidated by anyone.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” Isaiah 41:10

Go well Mulenga! We will surely miss you; we do not know who will fill the big gap you have left in the family.

Till we meet again in glory!
