Mona Louise (Coston) Smith was born July 8, 1932, to Alton (Crockett) and Mittie Coston in Salado, Texas. She passed away December 22, 2022, in Richardson, Texas.
She attended Nocona High School and graduated from Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. She was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring after 20 years of service.
The Disciples of Christ denomination had three churches in Abilene, and she attended them all. She taught Sunday School and served on committees, as did her husband, Scott M. Smith. She married Scott on December 7, 1951, and they were married 63 years. They had three children.
Mona loved to play bridge, and often taught new friends how to play. Her hobbies included redecorating and stock market trades. She loved to contribute to charities.
Mona is survived by her children, Kathy Strickland of Dallas, Texas, David Scott Smith of Bronte, Texas and Gary Crockett Smith of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren Jeff Henderson, Heather Cooke, Cory Strickland, Brandon Boyd, Jennifer Solis, and Mindy Mahon; great grandchildren Alexandra Thornton, Qingni (Ni) Jiang, Brian Boyd, Kylie Boyd, Tristan Boyd, Sofia Boyd, Shianne Solis, Dillon Solis, Madison Solis, Stockton Solis, Bailey Mahon and Gavin Corley; and sister Sue French. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jo McBay and her husband Scott M. Smith.
A memorial service honoring Mona’s life will be held January 19, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at The First Christian Church, 5125 Antilley Road, Abilene Texas with Pastor Doug Roysden officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Operation Smile at https://www.operationsmile.org a charity that offers plastic surgery to young children born with cleft a palate.
