Michael “Mike” Casey was born on September 30, 1940 to Emmett Casey and Virginia Lumm in Omaha, Nebraska. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 28, 2019, in Plano, TX.
Mike was the oldest of five children and grew up in Omaha. Mike loved to tell humorous stories of the adventures and mischief he and his siblings shared exploring the wooded area by their home.
After graduating from high school, Mike joined the Navy in 1960. After receiving top security clearance, he served on a tender ship servicing encryption equipment. Mike was stationed in Long Beach, CA and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1964 as an Electronics Technician ETN2.
Following the Navy, Mike returned to Omaha where he met the love of his life, Sara Boje. Mike and Sara were married on April 1, 1967. Despite their April Fool’s Day wedding, their marriage of 51 years embodied one of great friendship, deep love, unending commitment, and mutual respect that is a legacy to their children and grandchildren.
Soon after marriage, the young couple moved to California where Mike worked with his service buddies as an Electronics Technician. In February 1968, they had their first child, Ann Marie, and the following year a son, Patrick. Despite having two small kids and a full time job, Mike attended night school and received his bachelor’s degree of science from California State University, Long Beach. Mike was a loving and devoted father. He always invested 100% in the lives of his kids and served as a soccer coach, Cub Scout’s leader, and church youth leader. Best of all, he shared his love for Christ with his family.
While working for Rockwell International, Mike received a promotion that moved the family to Plano, TX in November of 1974. He had a varied and highly respected career in many different fields culminating as Director of Operations at Christ Church Plano. There he shared his gifts of administration and management helping the church he loved and served fulfill God’s mission. His church home was his family, and he was a faithful bible study leader and servant in a variety of ministries.
Mike had the gift of affirmation and encouragement. His kind words and gentle blessings served to grow the confidence and kindle the spirit of his loved ones and grandchildren. They steadied the ship in the middle of storms and made the way for peace in the Casey home. He was generous and patient to a fault.
Mike was extremely creative. He could tell the best stories, write the funniest poems, and build or fix just about anything. He loved killing time walking through Home Depot and always found projects to keep him busy and to help his friends and family. The greatest joy of his life was his grand-kids. As Papa, he would wrestle on the ground, make up games to play, and spend countless hours making them giggle and laugh. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him well.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sara Casey; daughter, Ann Marie Lindig and her husband Michael, son Patrick Casey and his wife Crissy; Grandchildren, Nathan Lindig and his wife Ashley, Aaron Lindig, Alyssa Lindig, Parker and Faith Casey; Siblings, Bob Casey and his wife Liz, Kathleen Casey, Margaret Ann Ward and Martha Jane Nelsen and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Virginia Casey.
A memorial service will be held Monday February 4, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Christ Church of Plano followed by a reception at the church.
