Michael David Thompson (Mike) passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 28, 2022 at home in his favorite position: reclined on his couch with his remote control, after an extended battle with dementia. Mike was born November 15, 1960 to Ted and Elaine Thompson. Ted was a Colonel in the Air Force so Mike and his siblings grew up in a variety of places from Thailand, where he began his love of water by falling into a canal at 3 years old, to Minot, North Dakota, where he learned that he wanted to live in a warmer climate. Ted retired to Florida, where Mike went to high school and got a degree in electrical engineering from University of South Florida, after which he moved to Dallas and spent his entire career working in the defense division at Texas Instruments, which later became part of Raytheon.
Mike discovered scuba in 1988 and became a divemaster, leading to many fun vacations throughout the Caribbean, swimming with the sharks, feeding the sting rays, and even being towed by a manta ray He enjoyed all sports, from playing rec softball when he was younger to golf with his buddies in later years, and attending Mavericks games with his daughter or his wife. He especially enjoyed tailgating and cheering on his Dallas Cowboys as a season ticket holder of many years, including following them to Green Bay several times where he and his Wisconsin brother-in-law Chris enjoyed ribbing each other over whose team would win. He enjoyed making his own wine with his friends in his laundry room and called his winery The Red Zone to combine his love of red wine and football. He also tried his hand at brewing his own beer, becoming more successful after his first batch blew their tops. Mike loved animals and over the last 25 years kept a steady string of Great Danes, sometime having 2 at a time.
Mike is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lisa; his children Michael and Claire Thompson; his sisters Laurie Lett, Teri Thompson, Patti Kielbon, and Aimee Fonda, and his former wife Vickie Thompson. He is preceded in death by his father Ted Thompson, his mother Elaine Thompson, and his brother Ted Thompson.
There will be an Afternoon of Remembrance from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at Allen Family Funeral Options.
