Michael Burns was a man who kept his life close to him
yet enjoyed sharing his wit with everyone! I write this with
a great sense of honor to him and what would have been our
50 years of married life together as of August 24th...
Happy 50th Anniversary!
Michael’s life began in Dayton, Ohio, July 10, 1950.
He was the first born to James and Brooke Burns. He later moved
to St. Louis where he grew up. He graduated
college from Southwest Missouri State University
with a BA in Business Administration. During that time, he met
and married Debbie.
Again, his journey traveled on... A career with Western Union in
St. Louis and then later a move to New Orleans. Many accomplishments
were achieved during those 14 years and he crossed paths with many dear
people.
Then his time began as a proud father....With the birth of his daughter,
Jamie and his two sons to follow, Matthew and Colby,
he pursued his commitment to creating the
best life possible for them. His children were his greatest
accomplishment and sense of joy... and a new subject for his wit!
A few more moves were made before taking him to Dallas,
Texas where he called home for almost 40 years.
His career path changed not long after moving and Banctec
entered his life for 16 years. Again, many successes were achieved.
Wonderful trips to Hawaii were earned and the times spent
with his team and co-workers were cherished. His wit always
prevailed thanks to many shared memories.
Michael enjoyed trips to the lake and spending time with
family and friends. Some long hot hours were spent pulling kids
behind that boat! These were also some of his best times.
His college friendships continued with annual fishing
trips and phone conversations on many an issue!
Many an afternoon was spent watching racing.
It brought back memories of his past family life and his
admiration of the cars and the sport. He loved the sound of the
engine revving and the shifting of gears that he experienced
with his many Ford (Cobra) Mustangs!
His life was enriched again when he became a grandfather to 3 boys.
If you asked them what was Pop Pop’s only rule, they
would reply “There are no rules!”. (Not always my feeling!)
There were many awesome moments that he got the time to see
and enjoy.
Michael did not want to share his weaknesses. He
knew who he was and always moved forward, never reliving
the past. His life at the end was a hard one, but even through that
his wit prevailed. We will all miss him and he will forever be in
our hearts!
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Colby V. Burns.
He leaves behind Debra Burns, Jamie Butterfield (Richard), Matthew
Burns (Ashley), and 4 grandchildren, Blake, Max and Brody Butterfield
and Ben Burns.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
the family has asked that you share a memory to celebrate his life at

.
Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears...
but laugh and talk of me... as though I was beside you.
I loved you so ...’twas Heaven here with you.
