English translation:
Matthew, whose name means “the presence of Jehovah”, honored the meaning of his name through his life. In his own way, he was ever playful with those who took the time to know him. Even for those who knew him from a distance, there was a light that shone from him like from above.
He had a gentle disposition like a soft breeze and a balm to our souls. He emitted much peace through his presence.
He had a way of transforming the lives of many, not least of which are his parents, who will never be the same because of deep life lessons learned through him.
Matthew always knew he was loved and cherished like no one else. There was no better place for him than cuddling with us on our lap. We knew that there was a joy in him that he communicated through his big smiles and sounds of affection and love.
In each of the schools he attended, the teachers referred to him as “the professor” because of all he taught them through his life.
His cheerful disposition and unique sense of humor touched the life of one of his schoolmates in particular: There was a young girl in his school whose parents had divorced and was having much trouble in the classroom. Her teachers had run out of ideas on how to reach her, until the principal suggested she spend some time in Matthew’s classroom. Right away she had a special connection with Matthew. The principal told her that if she continued paying attention in class in doing her work, as a reward she could receive more time in Matthew's classroom. Slowly but surely, an incredible change began to happen in her. She later wrote a letter to Matthew saying that she loved him, that she wished she could be like him, and that she was so thankful for their friendship.
In each school he attended, he formed deep attachments, made lasting friendships, and transformed many lives.
Matthew will always be cherished and will never be forgotten by the lives that he touched.
Matthew leaves behind his father Claudio F. Carvalho and mother Ruth J. Carvalho, his brother Claudio F. Carvalho Jr. and wife Tracy Carvalho, whose children are Emma and Lucas, his sister Cristiane Stump and husband Bobby Stump, whose children are Kennedy, Kaitlyn and Carli, and his sisters Allesandra Jaeger and Katherine Jaeger.
