Matilda Shali Madeda, 64, went home to be with the Lord on September 2, 2026. She was born on February 13, 1962, in Mwanda Kishamba, Taita-Taveta District, Kenya, to the late Wilhelm Madeda Kadeghe and Elizabeth Bibi Kilinda.
Matilda attended Ciciley McDowell Nursing School in Nairobi, Kenya, where she began her nursing education and embarked on a career devoted to caring for others. She began her nursing career in Kenya at the Mombasa Hospital before continuing her passion for nursing in the United States. She dedicated many years to the nursing profession, with her longest tenure at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts .
Matilda’s life was a beautiful testament to love, compassion, kindness, and gentleness. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing her was blessed by her warm heart and generous spirit. Her hardworking nature and courageous spirit carried her through humble beginnings and helped lead her into a successful and fulfilling career and life.
Matilda had a radiant smile that could light up any room. She was a wonderful wife, a devoted mother, a cherished friend, and an incredibly inspiring woman. Her strength, grace, and unwavering care for others left an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love she shared and the lives she touched.
Matilda is survived by her four children, Alphonce, Irene, Alex, and Moses, who will forever carry her love and memory in their hearts. She is also survived by her siblings, Constance, Pudenciana, James, Rogancia, Rophina, Alfred, Mary, and Remy, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael Tumuna Maghanga; her father, Wilhelm Madeda Kadeghe; her mother, Elizabeth Bibi Kilinda; and her sister, Erimina Shashu Madeda.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6-8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Allen Family Funeral Options
There will be a mass to celebrate Matilda's life at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. Jude Catholic Church, Allen, Texas, with The Rev. Ricardo Regalado, Celebrant.
Matilda will be laid to rest at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. Reception to follow
Though she is no longer with us in person, Matilda’s love, kindness, courage, and radiant spirit will continue to live on through her children, family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Rest peacefully, dear Matilda.
Your work on earth is finished.
Your journey is complete.
You are home with the Lord.
