Maryann Theresa Sobieski

Maryann Theresa Sobieski passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, friendship, and a life well lived.

Maryann was born on November 25, 1948, at Cooper Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, to Jack and Helen Devereaux. She grew up in Audubon, New Jersey, alongside her siblings, Francis, William, and Thomas. Maryann attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School and school in Audubon ISD.

As a young girl, Maryann’s life took a wonderful turn when she met the love of her life, Richard “Rick” Sobieski. The two first met in the summer of 1962 on the Steel Pier in Atlantic City while their families were vacationing. Rick was 15 and Maryann was just 13. What began as a teenage romance blossomed into a lifelong love story. They dated throughout their youth and were married on December 17, 1964. Together, they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage, creating a life filled with love, laughter, family, and countless cherished memories.

Maryann and Rick began their married life in Audubon and Somerdale, New Jersey, where they welcomed four children: Richard Jr., Kimberly, Jennifer, and Danielle. In October 1980, Rick’s career brought the family to Texas, where they made their home in Plano.

Maryann had a natural gift for caring for others, and that nurturing spirit inspired her to pursue a career in nursing. While raising her family and caring for her home, she worked hard to become a Registered Nurse. She went on to spend more than 30 years at Medical City Dallas, where she found great fulfillment working in Labor and Delivery. Maryann loved caring for her patients, but even more, she treasured the friendships she formed with her coworkers, many of whom became an important part of her life.

Above all else, Maryann was devoted to her family. No matter how busy life became, she always made time for the people she loved. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her home was a place where family and friends were always welcomed with open arms, delicious home cooked meals, laughter, games, and stories that would be remembered for years to come.

Maryann loved making memories with her family and seeing the world with Rick. She enjoyed vacations to Cape May and Florida, but one of her greatest passions was cruising. Together, she and Rick traveled to six continents and visited many wonderful places. She especially loved the Caribbean and Italy. She embraced every opportunity to experience new places, meet new people, and simply enjoy the beauty and adventure that life had to offer.

Maryann had a remarkable ability to find the good in people and in life. She was kind, generous, warmhearted, and quick to share a laugh. She was the person family and friends could call when they needed someone to celebrate with them, listen to them, or simply help them through a difficult day. She gave freely of herself and would do anything for the people she loved.

Maryann is survived by her beloved husband Rick and their four children and their families:

Richard Jr. and Lisa, and their children Callie and husband Urius, great-grandchildren Jonah and Lana; Ricky III and wife Lauren; Jake and wife Gabby; and Olivia.

Kimberly and Walter, and their children Nicholas and Anna.

Jennifer and Dale.

Danielle, and her son Dylan.

Maryann will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her love will live on in the lives of everyone she touched. Her laughter, kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family will remain part of her family’s story for generations to come.

She lived a life full of love, adventure, laughter, and beautiful memories. She loved deeply, cared generously, and found joy in the people around her. Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we can also celebrate the extraordinary life she lived and the love she gave so freely.

We will love and miss Maryann always. And we find comfort in knowing that she is once again smiling, surrounded by the love of her mother, father, and sister, while watching over all of us who were blessed to know and love her.

There will be a mass to celebrate Maryann’s life at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 28, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Plano, Texas.
