Mary Louise Hernandez

August 27, 1940 — April 9, 2022

Mary was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 27 th , 1940.  She graduated from Burbank High School in 1958, then attended Texas Woman’s University (TWU) in Denton where she received her bachelor’s degree in Education.  Mary returned to San Antonio to begin her teaching career, then received a master’s degree in Bilingual Education from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1978.

After college, Mary began dating her future husband Nick Hernandez in San Antonio, and they were married in1965.  The following year they started a family with the birth of their son Nick. Lisa, JoAnn, and Sandy were born during the next several years.

In 1978, the family relocated to Plano for Nick’s job with Southwestern Bell.  This is where the children were raised, and where Mary lived the remainder of her life.  After relocation to DFW, Mary worked as a bilingual teacher in the Dallas Independent School District at Martha Turner Riley Elementary School, where she worked until her retirement.

After retirement she spent time with her husband Nick, traveling extensively with friends and family. They purchased a time share, which they used to travel to various locations around the country.   She also enjoyed spending time with her five grandchildren.

Mary was very active in her church and her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was involved with the ACTS group, prayer groups, assisted with various church programs and was a Eucharistic Minister.  She was very devoted to Christ.

Mary is survived by her children and their spouses; Nick Hernandez, Lisa and Sean Gathright, JoAnn and Jerry Yzaguirre, Sandy Navarro; five grandchildren: Megan Perry, Victoria Almanza, Nikki Yzaguirre, John Paul Navarro and Gianna Navarro.

There will be a Visitation on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Allen Family Funeral Options, 2112 W. Spring Creek Parkway Plano, Texas 75023.  A Rosary will begin at 6:30 pm with some Words of Remembrance to follow. For those who cannot attend, the Rosary and Words of Remembrance will be Live Streamed at: http://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/72237

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day on Wednesday, April 13,2022 at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Parkway (Across from the Fire Station)  Plano, Texas 75023 with a reception to follow in Room 130 at the Seton Faith Formation Center, 3100 W. Spring Creek Parkway at Independence Parkway. For those who cannot attend, the mass will be Live Streamed at: https://youtu.be/BC1Veqczs2g
