Mary Elizabeth (McFadden) Applewhite passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 in Dallas, Texas. She was born on June 28, 1928 at the Masonic Hospital in El Paso, Texas to Robert Emmett and Pearl (Blackburn) McFadden.
Mary Beth attended high school at the Radford School for Girls in El Paso. Then, she went on to Christian College (now Columbia College) in Columbia, Missouri. In 1949, she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
She was a performer as well as a piano and music teacher. She was a member of the Phi Beta Women’s National Music and Speech Fraternity and Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas.
Mary Beth served on the board of the Plano Independent School District and the Parkland Health and Hospital Systems.
She was a delegate from Mississippi at the 1968 Republican Convention. And, she was a National Federation of Music Clubs judge.
Mary Beth is survived by her husband, Joe Crawford Applewhite; sons, Walter Robert Applewhite (Teresa), Joe Crawford Applewhite, Jr. and James Byron Applewhite (Linda); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Park Cities Presbyterian Church Chapel, 4124 Oak Lawn Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75219.
Burial will be at Applewhite Cemetery near Vaiden, Mississippi at a date and time to be determined. Please check back soon for the details.
