Mary Ann Ganey, age 81 of Plano, Texas passed away after fighting a long illness on Sunday, July 26, 2020. She passed peacefully with her children by her side. She was born to the late Glen William Drewett and Stella Hooper Drewett on January 17, 1939 in LaSalle Parish, Louisiana.
Mary Ann attended Jena High School before attending Northeastern State University of Louisiana and Louisiana State University as a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology and leveraged her knowledge to not only break the “glass ceiling” barrier, but to build out and direct one of the most prestigious private labs in the country at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas for almost 25 years.
She was active in her community and a member and former Sunday school teacher at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, in Dallas, Texas. Family, friends and music were some of Mary Ann’s passions. She loved people and never met a stranger.
Her childhood was spent enjoying wonderful family vacations and exciting trips with her mother overseas
.
Summers at the lake fishing or enjoying a crawfish boil with family and friends were always in order along with skiing and getting anywhere near the mountains and snow in the winter. Mary Ann also danced her entire life.
She was given the nickname “Boogie” in the early ’40s by her parents and it stuck for life. First, for her love of every type of music and secondly for her non-stop desire to dance. From twirling the baton as a majorette in high school to jazz classes at the Buster Cooper studio decades later, she never stopped moving. She was an avid and talented ice skater and had her kids on the ice soon after they could walk. From rollerblading to skiing double-black diamonds in her 70’s, she did not waste a minute of life. She was fearless and embraced anything new and fun. She was also referred to as a constant cheerleader by her children and never failed to share her infectious enthusiasm and optimism for life anytime someone needed a spiritual lift.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter and son, Susan A. Ganey and Stephen T. Ganey, along with his wife Samantha Ganey and their three children, Brennan, Ethan, and Madison Ganey.
She also leaves behind so many loving friends and relatives.
Mary Ann requested a private ceremony with her children to respect social distancing, travel restrictions, and safety concerns for out of state family and friends. Arrangements were provided by Allen Family Funeral Options.
