Martin "Marty" Krueger

July 14, 1963 — February 20, 2025

Martin (Marty) Andrew Krueger was born July 14, 1963, and welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on February 20, 2025.

He was born in Neptune, New Jersey where he lived with his parents, Victor and Eva, as the middle child between brothers Michael and Thomas. The family moved to Sunnyvale, California in 1969, where Martin grew up and graduated from Homestead High School in 1981. He loved sports, excelling in little league baseball and high school track.

Martin went to California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA. He was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, Order of Omega, and Scholastic All-America. He graduated in June 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture.

Martin met his wife, Connie, on a cruise ship in the Port of Miami in January 1987. They were married on July 1, 1988, and began their adventures together in Boca Raton, Florida, where Martin took his first job as a landscape architect. Martin and Connie were thrilled to welcome their first child, Christopher, a year and a half later.

He loved his career, and it took him places. The family moved to Birmingham, Alabama then to Spring, Texas where they were blessed with two more children: Kendall and Nicholas. In 1998, Martin moved his family to Plano, Texas and, later, McKinney, Texas, where the kids grew up.

Martin was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed spending time with his children and was never away from home long — except when he was taking his family on one of their many cross-country road trips. He loved being “Poppy” to his granddaughter Hallie Grace and was very involved in her young life.

Martin was an outstanding handyman, as evidenced by the numerous projects he completed in and around his house. He was also a good cook, known for the many Thanksgiving dinners he and Connie perfected over the years, his signature breakfast burritos, and “Martino’s Best Backyard Pizza.” He didn’t mind being “voluntold” to do things by Connie and found joy in fixing things and helping people.

Due to his illness, Martin ended his career as a Senior Associate at Lochner in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. As a land planner and urban designer, he worked for over 32 years on a variety of project types, including transportation, healthcare, federal, justice, mixed-use, commercial, residential, and hospitality. His favorites, however, were golf course architecture and the occasional front- or backyard landscape designs for friends.

Martin had a strong faith in Jesus and was intentional about serving at Chase Oaks Church in a variety of volunteer roles, from doing landscape architecture work to playing acoustic guitar with the worship team. You’d see his big smile at guest services, with the parking team, in the coffee bar, or even with the ushers when they needed a helping hand. Partners in practically everything, Martin served alongside his wife in the church library and at a host of events. He loved to serve kids, as well, and was an Awana class leader for four years.

He was a dedicated and regular blood donor through most of his life, donating countless units and filling his closet with T-shirts from various blood drives. During his illness, when his treatment required blood transfusions, he would take a moment to consider each bag and think of the people who helped provide them.

Among his pastimes, Martin enjoyed attending sporting events or watching them on TV with family. He was an avid biker, both on the road and his Peloton. He and Connie would often go on weekend retreats to Saint Jo, Texas where they enjoyed the beauty of North Texas Hill Country and quality time with friends at their favorite vineyards and wineries.

He had a strong connection to his German heritage and often donned his traditional lederhosen, blue-checkered shirt, and Bavarian Alpine hat to have a beer at a local Oktoberfest. He was affectionately dubbed “Lederhosen Guy” by his friends and wherever else he appeared in his full German garb.

Martin made many fond memories with his family and friends. Anyone who knew him will recall his easy smile and gentle spirit. In Martin’s own words, “We made a beautiful life together.”

Martin is survived by his wife, Connie; children Christopher, Kendall, and Nicholas; granddaughter Hallie; brother Thomas; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt, uncle, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Michael.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate Martin’s life at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Allen Family Funeral Options with Claudia McGuire officiating. There will be a reception immediately following.
