Mark Collver Hopkins

Aug 20, 1963 — Aug 25, 2026

Dallas, Texas

Mark Collver Hopkins was born on August 20, 1963, in Norman, Oklahoma, to Susan Jane Key and Burtram Collver Hopkins, II. He grew up alongside his sister Julie Ann in Dallas, Texas. Mark and Julie’s mother passed away on August 22, 1978, in Dallas.

Mark graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas in 1981. He attended the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta and graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas in 1986 with a business degree.

Mark married Tracey Elaine Dodson on June 29, 1991, in Dallas. They had three children together, a son Tanner and twin daughters Katie and Madison.

He was the owner/manager of Apex Valuation for 30 years, a commercial and residential appraisal company. Mark had the distinction of holding the MAI designation and was a licensed commercial appraiser in the state of Texas until he left the profession.

Born in Norman and a proud University of Oklahoma alumnus, Mark was Boomer Sooner through and through. He was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan who attended or watched every game, and he faithfully followed the Mavericks as well. Mark loved people and never met a stranger. Outgoing and blessed with a gift for gab, he could talk for hours. He loved the outdoors, especially camping, boating, and fishing, and spent many years enjoying life at the lake. A Christian, Mark’s life can be summed up in three words: Faith, Family, and Friends.

Mark is survived by his father B. C. “Bud” Hopkins, his stepmother Suzanne “Nana” Mitchell Hopkins, and sister Julie Hopkins Johnson (Chip Johnson), Tracey Dodson (former wife) and their three children, James Tanner Hopkins (Campbell), Katie Hopkins Kula (Josh), and Madison Hopkins. He was the proud grandfather of Maeve Birdie Hopkins and Whitaker “Whit” James Hopkins. He was preceded in death by his mother.
