Ann peacefully entered Heaven on April 6, 2021, in her sleep.
She was born in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, on July 7, 1932, to Clyde and Mae Sanders. She attended college at ETSU in Commerce, Texas, where she majored in Home Economics. It was during this time that she was introduced to her future husband A.D. Shaw.
On June 1, 1950, she married A.D. for what would be 63 years of marriage. They had 7 children, who were the center of Ann’s life.
While raising their family, they lived in Wimberly, Texas; San Marcos, Texas; Hazel Crest, Illinois; San Angelo, Texas;
Mt. Pleasant, Texas; and San Antonio, Texas. Everywhere they lived they were involved at church and school and were always present at the sporting events their children participating in.
She loved babies and became “Mommie Ann” to many families throughout her life as she provided care for their children and loved them as her own.
After retirement she and A.D. settled in San Antonio, where they enjoyed visiting with their neighbors and cooking for
“Prime Time” on Wednesday nights at McArthur Park Church of Christ. This ministry of friends and cooking would last over a decade. Ann was a great cook and shared her love of cooking by making huge meals for family and friends at every opportunity. She would sit and read cookbooks for hours at a time and always had a new recipe to share.
In 2010 she and A.D. moved to Celina, Texas, and joined
Rockhill Church of Christ in Frisco, Texas. After losing her husband in 2013, she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s school and church events, going to Mt. Pleasant to see her brother, and visiting with all the people she loved.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant twin daughters, and her daughter Deborah Ann Eckenberg.
She is survived by her brother, Harold Dean Sanders (Mt. Pleasant, Texas); her children: Dr. A. Don Shaw, DDS, and wife Peggy (San Antonio, Texas); Dean Shaw (San Antonio, Texas); Danny Shaw and wife Elaine (Bulverde, Texas); Dana Shaw (San Antonio, Texas); Doug Shaw and wife Renee (Dallas, Texas); and Kristin Buchanan and husband David (Celina Texas), who were Ann’s primary caregivers the last eight years of her life.
Mom had 14 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren -- and many others whom she loved.
In lieu of a formal service, at a date uncertain the immediate family will come together to celebrate Ann’s life, taking her home to East Texas to scatter her remains in the country, as was her request. We know the day will be filled with good food, stories of her life -- and lots of laughter.
