Marina Sauro Genero

January 22, 1937 — May 19, 2022

Born in a small town of Allen, Northern Samar on January 22, 1937, on the Island of the Visayas, within central Philippines.  As a young child, you would often find her fishing when the tide was low or otherwise explore the island with a sense of adventure. She also enjoyed having meals with family and friends, some of her favorites being bananas, sweet yams, potatoes, both dried and fresh fish, rice, vegetables cooked in coconut milk as well as a refreshing drink of fresh coconut juice – sometimes straight from the fruit. She would live through the Japanese Occupation of the Philippines and move to Manila for work where she would eventually meet the man who would become her husband of over thirty years, Me Shiu.

She was unfortunately widowed in March 1992 and rededicated her life in raising her five children of whom have had twenty-two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. An extremely hard worker who could work wonders with her hands creating beautiful crafts and handiworks.  She saved every penny she had to gift to her grandchildren and their wellbeing.  She prayed every day for everyone’s good health and fortune, often awakening before dawn to read scripture and attend televised mass.  She would constantly remind her grandchildren to not forget to pray and to love one another according to the will of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Since her husband’s passing, she had spent most of her life with her daughter Fae and her family in Plano, Texas. She was called in the presence of the Lord early in the morning of May 19, 2022, and has reunited with her parents Mateo Genero and Encarnacion Sauro and sits alongside her siblings Lionila Dinero Valencia, Veronica Dineros, and Enrique Pioquinto Jr.

Marina is survived by her sisters Guadalupe Sauro Galaroza and Erlinda Sauro Bermas, as well as her brother Roque Tanda.

Her son, Phillip Shiu, currently married to Gresilda Labrague with five grandchildren Pilar, Anjo, Patricia, Jeferson and Fatima and great grandchild Eleanor by their daughter Patricia. As well as three grandchildren May, Janice, and Rhaiza from Phillip’s previous marriage with Natividad Sugguiyao and three great grandchildren, Mijan Bree, Jairus Ryan, and Rhyna Maia by their daughter May.

Daughter Fae Shiu married to Joseph Michael Odenweller with four grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan, Kirsten, and Chandler.

Daughter Luz Shiu married to Pacifico Cristobal with three grandchildren Ivan, Sara, and Sheena.

Son Chito Shiu married to Celia De Guzman Caranto with three grandchildren Karina, Kristoff, and Elaekka, as well as two great grandsons Milo and Max by their daughter Karina.
