Margaret Kathryn Lee was always known to family and friends as Katy. While born in Oklahoma, Katy's parents moved to Los Angeles for a new career opportunity when she was at a young age. Consequently, she grew up with a southern California view on life and that gave her an independent, can-do attitude that most women of her generation did not have.
She did marry after finishing nursing school, but the marriage only lasted a few years as she was not happy being limited in her pursuit to maximize her career, travel and broaden her horizons in general. Katy did not have any children as a result of the marriage, and she lived alone the rest of her life.
Katy's primary focus was on her nursing career, and to further her career, she took advanced nursing courses and came within a few college hours of completing her PhD at the University of Texas. As a result of her advanced studies, she starting teaching nursing at several small college nursing schools in Texas, but her big break was joining Loyola University in New Orleans as a professor of nursing where she taught for many years. After teaching, Katy served as Director of Nursing for the River Oaks Hospital for a number of years.
An additional pursuit was being a member of the Louisiana Air National Guard for many years and she retired as a Lt Colonel. This was quite an accomplishment for a woman in her generation as it was a very masculine work environment years ago.
Katy was very interested in attending theater performances, cultural events and traveling internationally. She was also a donor to a number of groups for the advancement of society in the U.S.
Katy will be laid to rest with military honors at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery on November 18. 2021 at 1:00pm
