Margaret Bauer

Margaret Bauer, age 92, currently of Texas, formerly of Iowa and Minnesota, met Jesus and her beloved Bruce when she went Home on Thursday morning, September 3, 2026, at Grand Brook Memory Care of McKinney.

Margaret Bauer was born during the summer of 1934 in Iowa to Walter and Ruth. She was the little sister to big brother Paul and older sisters Bonnie and Darlene.

In tenth grade, she moved with her family to Winona, Minnesota when her dad was transferred there for his job with the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad.

She finished school in Winona, including receiving her bachelor’s degree in music education from Winona State College (now Winona State University). After receiving her degree, she promptly got her first job, in the nearby little town of Hayfield, doing what she loved: teaching high school music, choir, and piano.

While in Winona, she met a young math and physics student named Bruce Bauer. They were introduced by his little sister, Carol, who happened to be Margaret’s best friend. They married on Flag Day in 1958. Very soon after, she got Bruce his first job teaching science in the same high school where she was teaching music.

In 1962, they moved to Stillwater, Minnesota when Bruce got a new job teaching physics at Stillwater High School. While in Stillwater, they raised three children, two girls, Dawn and Robin, and a boy, Lane. Margaret continued teaching piano, this time out of their home while their kids were young.

Teaching and taking care of kids was always Margaret’s passion. Once their kids were a little older, she began teaching others’ little ones in preschool and mothers-day-out programs. All while she continued teaching piano and taking care of her home and family.

When not at home or school, Margaret, Bruce, and the kids were at church, serving their Lord Jesus. Margaret and Bruce taught Sunday school and led the youth group for years. Margaret used her musical talents to direct the choir and play organ and piano for services.

In 1990, Bruce was invited to teach Physics in Dallas, at St. Mark’s School of Texas. So, he and Margaret packed up everything and moved from Minnesota to Texas.

In Plano, where they eventually settled, Margaret quickly found a place to practice her passion for teaching little ones at a local Baptist Church preschool. Over the next 25 years, she continued to teach and love the children at various preschools in the area until she retired around 2015.

At home, she became Baboo as she gave her time and love to her grandkids, McClaine, Grayson, Joseph, and Emily.

Although she lost her beloved Bruce in 2020, she continued to love her kids and grandkids and any other child (of any age) who wandered across her path, to the best of her ability.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce, her parents, her brother, and her sisters. Margaret is survived by her daughter Dawn, daughter and son-in-law Robin and Stacey, son and daughter-in-law Lane and Brooke, grandchildren Joseph, Emily, McClaine, and their spouses, and Grayson and his daughter, Baboo’s first great-granddaughter, Octavia, and many nieces and nephews.

A Texas memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026, with a light reception to follow, at Allen Family Funeral Options.

A Minnesota memorial service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2026, with additional details to follow.
