Emmanuel (Manny) Veluz Ladera was born on December 25, 1937. He grew up alongside four other siblings as the middle child. He attended college at Ateneo de Manila University, and finished his studies for his master’s degree in Philosophy at Fordham University. He passed away surrounded by his wife and five children on October 9, 2020.
On a rainy day in 1991, he met Leticia (Letty) in Naga, Philippines, and it was love-at-first-sight. He loved visiting her during his free time to learn everything about her. He would often surprise her by coming to her work place located in another city just to give her company going back home. He would always have a gift ready for her every time he met her; it would range from flowers to colorful handkerchiefs. His love was endless as he would write love letters to her every day when he went back to America. With every moment that he spent with her, Letty eventually knew through his words and actions that he was the one for her. She saw him for how kind, patient, and loving he was. After six months, they got married, and Letty was shortly pregnant with Emmanuel (J.R.) Ladera JR. It continued with Mary Manilette Ladera and John (J.B.) Benjamin Ladera.
If you asked Manny, his greatest achievement was not his career or his academic excellence, it was being a father. He always made sure to devote his time to drive his children around to all of their schools and extracurricular activities. He always encouraged his children to practice love and kindness through all facets of life. Always making others laugh with dad-jokes and goofy dancing.
In addition to J.R., Manilette and J.B., he is survived by Emmanuel (Chris) Christopher Ladera and Neil Patrick Ladera from his first marriage. In addition to those children, he is survived by his two grandchildren, Benjamin (Ben) Cole Ladera and Mackenzie (Z) Ryan Ladera. He is also survived by his four siblings, older sister Evalour, older sister Rosita (Tita), younger brother Wilfred, and younger sister Stella.
The family will receive friends for a visitation from 7:00-9:00 P.M. Monday, October 12, 2020 with Words of Remembrance spoken at 7:00 P.M., officiated by Fr. Sinu Joseph at Allen Family Funeral Options.
