Emblem

Carmon "Lowell" Shaw, 83, formerly of Plano Texas, passed from this life on February 12, 2025, in Amarillo Texas, surrounded by "his girls". Because of his strong faith, we know where he is, and that we will see him again someday.

Lowell was born on June 15, 1941, in Stanfield, Clay County, Texas, to Leslie Carmon Shaw and Elenora Lorraine Moore Shaw and was raised in Henrettia and Wichita Falls.

He served 21 years in the Navy and retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer. During his time in the Navy, he was given secret security clearance and was asked to do many remarkable things, including work with the Blue Angels, work air crew for the real "Top Gun" unit, and serving as a guard for the first moon rocks brought to earth by Apollo 11. He was also part of an Ultra Secret Unit known as the VO-67, or "Ghost Squadron". This Unit received the highest unit award given in the Navy- The Presidential Unit Citation, which is the equivalent of the individual Navy Cross being awarded to every unit member. This honor was given almost 40 years after Lowell served in Vietnam and was the first time he was allowed to talk about his time in this secret unit, and the work that he did.

After his military retirement, Lowell moved his family to Plano Texas. He worked at Texas Instruments, Mosteck, Electrospace, and Gerber over the next several decades. After retiring from his "real" job, he started his own business, A Helping Handyman. He enjoyed using his skills to build, repair, and refurbish people's homes, and he considered it a special honor to help seniors, widows, single mothers, and low-income families at a price they could afford. He often worked for free because he felt it was his Christian duty to help those less fortunate.

In addition to his employment, Lowell was a member of many church and civic groups. His family will always recall tales of FBC's Men's Breakfast Prayer group meeting with various members of the Dallas Cowboys, but Lowell especially enjoyed getting to visit with Coach Landry. Lowell was a member of the Red Cross, Texas Baptist Men, Citizens on Patrol, and was President of the Neighborhood Crime Watch. He ran sound for Plano Civic Children's Chorus before they became Younger Generation, a singing group "The Dallas Prophets", all of the ensembles and choirs for FBC Plano, and he was a sponsor on every youth trip/choir tour for 25 years. He started and led the Puppet Ministry, and he worked in Children's Sunday School.

Lowell was a quiet man with a giant heart. He was committed to his faith and his family. He will be remembered for his loyalty, hard work, and gentle strength.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Pamela Shaw, daughter Staci (Aron) Dillahunty of Dumas Texas, and son Kenneth (Vanessa) Shaw from Brunswick Georgia; sisters Nita (Bill) Allen of Grove City, Ohio, Linda (Steve) Austin of Terrell Texas, brother-in- law Paul (Karen) Gilchrist of Macon Georgia; grandchildren Madilynn "Jesse" Dillahunty (Bert Couch), Carey Grace Dillahunty, Nic (Jennifer) Shaw, Jonathan (Brianna) Shaw; great grandchildren Jasper Couch, Rosie Couch, Zoey Shaw, Ryder Shaw, and another Shaw baby arriving in November and special caregiver Grace Vanderford. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, two infant brothers, his in-laws Clarence and Jeanne Gilchrist, and 5 infant grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate his life at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2025, at First Baptist Church Plano.
