Louise Catherine Leask Braxton, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025, at her home in Plano, Texas.
“Lou,” as she was known by her friends, was born April 24, 1930, on a farm 5 miles south of Ennis, Texas to Thomas Henry Leask and Ora Elizabeth Lindle Leask. She was the eighth of eleven children and graduated from St. John’s High School and, later, St. Paul’s School of Nursing in Dallas.
She joined the Navy in 1952 as a Lieutenant and served during the Korean War. After her discharge, she lived and worked as a nurse in California. In 1965, she married Walter Franklin Braxton, and together they raised seven children. She worked for Plano General Hospital (now Medical City of Plano) until her retirement.
Louise regularly spoke of what a blessed life she’d lived and how she’d always felt loved. Her words could be no surer sign of a life well lived. She will be dearly missed by family and friends alike.
Louise is survived by her children, Joan (Darrell) Walker, Lisa Braxton, Amy Steen, and Robert Braxton, as well as numerous grandchildren, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her ten siblings, her husband, Walter, and her sons, Walter Jr., Timothy, and Michael, and her life-long friends, Alicia and Bill Condon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, with her friend Rev. Bruce Bradley officiating.
Louise will be laid to rest with military honors at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The family thanks Vitas Hospice and caregivers Tirset Wonde and Donna Long who gave Louise comfort and companionship in her final months. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who wish to remember Louise contribute in her name to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
