Lorene Sebesta Rollish, age 90, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 17, 2023, surrounded by her children. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Belton, Texas.
Lorene, the oldest of 5 siblings, was born March 7, 1933, in the Czech community of Snook, Texas. She was the daughter of William John Sebesta and Rosie Annie Jakubik. Her paternal grandparents were Frank X & Mary K Sebesta. Her maternal grandparents were Josef Jakubik and Frances Sebesta. Lorene was so proud of her family and her Czech heritage.
Her family later moved to Galveston, Texas where she met the love of her life, Sherwood Rollish. Sherwood and Lorene only lived one-half block from each other and would ride the school bus together. They were heavily involved in the youth group of Bible Baptist Church. As soon as they were married in 1950, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas to attend Bible Baptist Seminary, now known as Arlington Baptist College.
Lorene’s first job in Fort Worth, Texas was at John Peter Smith Hospital. She worked the midnight shift while attending Seminary classes during the day. Years and years later she never forgot a patient named ‘Willie Johnson’ who came in ER restrained to the stretcher but was able to stand up with the stretcher tied to him. In fright, she went and hid in a laundry closet and did not reappear until the ‘coast was clear’.
After Bible Baptist Seminary, she attended college majoring in accounting and business classes. She worked over 40 years as an Oil & Gas Bookkeeper with companies such as American Quasar Petroleum in downtown Fort Worth.
Lorene loved to save money while being gloriously frugal. Most grocery trips were from stores where ‘you bag your own’. She loved to sew for herself and her daughter, making numerous dresses, rather than purchasing the ones ‘store bought’. While working in downtown Fort Worth, she would take the old, rattled subway connecting the parking lot to the edge of downtown, and then walk several blocks to the high-rise Bank towers, rather than paying the costly fee to park near her building. One of her hobbies was shopping at high-end department stores such as Sanger Harris or Foley’s, only bringing home those items with a deep discount!
Lorene read her Bible. Her Bible was filled with ‘more than numerous’ notes of verses and what they meant to her. Psalms 31, 32, 33, 34 and 36 were some of her favorite Scripture.
She is survived by her three children, son, Don Rollish, daughter, Sherene Long and husband Ed, son, John Rollish and wife Kris, grandchildren, Christina Nichols and husband Richard, Ryan Long, Kathryn Long, Bella Rollish, Gabriel Rollish, and one new great-grandbaby, James Nichols, sister, Rosa Lee McGaffey and many nieces and nephews.
Her final intelligible words; Sherene said, “I love you Mom”, and Lorene replied, “I love you better”.
Aren’t you glad that this is not the end?
There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Snook Cemetery, Snook Texas.
