Lloyd G Tharpe, Jr.

June 6, 1944 — July 3, 2023

Lloyd Tharpe was born on June 6, 1944, to Marvie Elizabeth and Lloyd Tharpe in Alabaster, Alabama.

He excelled at football and baseball and served as VP in Future Farmers of America at Alabama’s Montevallo High School. After high school, Lloyd also played baseball for the San Francisco Giants minor league team in Alabama. There, he had the experience of playing against the likes of Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax and Willie McCovey. Lloyd was employed as a Data Processing Manager for St. Regis, Champion Paper Mill Industry and Fidelity Investments.

His lifespan of interest and hobbies were rooting for Alabama Crimson Tide Football, hunting with his beloved birddogs Lady and Belle. He enjoyed golfing, long walks in the park feeding the squirrels and playing basketball for hours on end. He loved to discuss WW II history and knew every detail. He loved big band music and dancing! Lloyd also proudly served as a HOA board member of his townhome association. To support his community, he relocated the overpopulation of squirrels to nearby parks to thrive.

Lloyd was also very passionate about attending and discussing bible study. He also reminded everyone to give thanks daily and he was a proud patriot.

He loved having a family meal, telling stories and spending quality time with his grandchildren.

Lloyd passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2023, in Richardson, Texas.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Sherry (Scott) Pearson, Michele (John) Stevens, and Michael (Jennifer) Tharpe; grandchildren Tristen Lloyd Pearson, Logan Graham Tharpe, Tessa Ann Tharpe and Isabella Ann Stevens; siblings and their spouses are Donnie & Melda Tharpe, Mitzi Evans, Danny Tharpe, Robert & Janice Tharpe, Barbara & Kennet Skold, and Nancy Partridge; and his significant other was Carole Bragg.

A memorial service to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Allen Family Funeral Options with Pastor Dave Robbins officiating. If you wish to join the service via webcast, please visit: http://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/90170
