Leona Mae Hufstutler

Leona Mae Hufstutler of Richardson, Texas passed away on Saturday November 1, 2025.

Leona was born in Bronte, Texas to Alexander and Martha Mae (Gibson) McQueen on June 27, 1929. Leona grew up on their farm east of Bronte and graduated from Bronte high school in 1946.

Leona worked as a teller at the First National Bank in Bronte after high school and met Gale Hufstutler. Leona and Gale were married on May 15, 1949, in Bronte. Leona worked for M-Systems in San Angelo and for Furr’s supermarkets in Lubbock while Gale served in Korea and went to college. From Lubbock they moved to Vienna Virginia where they had their two children, Alan and Traci. In 1965 they returned to Texas to be closer to their parents. The house they bought in Richardson was their home for the next 60 years.

Once the kids were in high school, Leona went to work for Georgeson & Company out of New York City and managed their new office in Dallas. Leona obtained her private pilot’s license in 1974 and enjoyed flying well into the 1980’s. In retirement Leona and Gale enjoyed traveling all over the U.S. and Scotland and visiting the kids and grandkids in the Houston and Abilene areas. Everywhere she went Leona made lifelong friends.

Leona is survived by her son Alan Hufstutler and wife Sue of Merkel Texas; her daughter Traci Iverson, husband David of Houston, and granddaughters Kathryn and Alyssa Iverson of Houston Texas; niece Susan McQueen of Plano Texas and nephew Jim McQueen and wife Nancy of California. Leona is also survived by grandsons Nicholas and wife Brittney of Abilene Texas, Chad and wife Jessie of Alma Michigan and Jeremy and wife Liz of Grand Rapids Michigan along with great grandchildren Tristan, Evie, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Reagan and Kennedy. She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Gale, brother Morgan McQueen and his wife Frances.

Leona is sorely missed but is at home with God.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Saint Barnabas Presbyterian Church, Richardson, Texas 75080.
