Leah Elizabeth Dorsey

Leah always lit up a room with her zest for life, droll sense of humor and infectious laugh. Loved by all, stranger to none, her childhood birthday parties included the entire neighborhood, yet she developed genuine, lifelong friendships. A hopeless romantic, Leah connected easily with people throughout her life and relished the pomp and pageantry of celebrations, the planning, decorating, gifting, gaiety. Leah had a heart of gold, adored her canine fur babies as her children and dubbed herself the “fun” aunt. Of all the seasons, she loved Christmas most, decking her halls with holiday glitz, glamour, snow globes and angels.

Leah Dorsey dreamed big, played hard and lived large. She passed away peacefully at age 55 on October 2, 2019 in Plano, Texas of liver disease. Born April 17, 1964 in El Paso, Texas to Charlie Leon Dorsey, Jr. and Wilda Glenn Priddy, Leah was the youngest of three daughters. Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her sisters, Melanie Lockhart (Steve Schott) of Albuquerque, NM; Amy Vohs (Darrell) of Plano, TX; nephews Jacob Vohs (Debbie) of Plano and Joshua Vohs of Dallas; great nieces Isabel and Violet Vohs of Plano and her precious yorkie, Bow.

Leah lived in El Paso, Midland and Sherman before moving to Nacogdoches in 1978, where she was active in the First United Methodist Church and Nacogdoches High School choir, musical productions and Dragonette drill team. Leah especially enjoyed expressing herself through the art of dance. She graduated from NHS in 1982, then pursued a Fashion Merchandising degree at Stephen F. Austin State University (1986). She worked in Dallas retail for many years (Neiman Marcus, Wilson Leathers) before moving into property management with Lincoln Properties. A proud SFA graduate, Leah formed loyal, supportive bonds with her Tri Delta sorority sisters, promoting “girl power” values always. Also, no one wore a 1980’s hairstyle better than Leah! She was continually adding people to her inner circle, yet remained fiercely loyal and devoted to her family, dedicating the last four years to the well-being of her aging father. Leah gave up her life in Plano, returning to Nacogdoches to care for him full time. Her family will be eternally grateful for this sacrifice of love.

Leah had an adventurous spirit, love of travel and knack for maintaining friendships around the globe. She loved the energy of big cities like Washington DC and Las Vegas. A devoted animal lover and even bigger Dallas Cowboy fan, Leah stood by her men through good seasons and bad. She was particularly delighted to see Jason Witten come out of retirement this year.

There will be Celebration of Life from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Allen Family Funeral Options.  Everyone will gather about 6:30 pm for some words of comfort.
