Laurie (Watson) Armstrong

December 10, 1961 — January 15, 2023

Laurie Watson Armstrong was born December 10, 1961, in Freeport Texas to parents Wayland and Barbara (Rosier) Watson.

Laurie was raised in and around College Station, Texas and graduated from A&M Consolidated High School. She attended Texas Tech and earned her bachelor’s degree from UT Arlington. After earning her CPA, she worked as an accountant in the energy utility sector, most recently at Garland Power & Light. Her co-workers valued Laurie’s prompt and detailed attention to her work, her kindness, and her willingness to help out.

Laurie met Gary, the love of her life, in 2017. She was a loving, supportive wife and they enjoyed cruising and traveling together, as well as playing their nightly games of Sudoku and making plans for their eventual retirement together.

After losing her sister Allison in late 2021, Laurie took on the role of guardian for her mother’s financial affairs in what would be the last year of her mother’s life before she succumbed to Alzheimer’s Disease. A dutiful child, Laurie loved her mother and father and looked after their health and well-being.

Laurie also loved her brother and sister-in-law and her sister and their kids and grandkids. Since Laurie never had children of her own, her siblings’ children were loved like her own. When great-nieces and nephews were born, she was excited to welcome the next generation.

Laurie’s stepchildren Zack and Haley never had enough time to get to know each other very well, but they loved each other nonetheless. Laurie was happy as well to love more nieces and nephews when she married Gary.

Laurie was a quiet person who loved music, reading, and the fabric arts. She was an amazing seamstress who taught herself to crochet and knit. She wanted to spend more time quilting with friends.  And she loved her dog, Murphey, and doted on him.

Laurie is survived by her husband Gary Armstrong; stepchildren Zack and Haley Armstrong; father Wayland Watson; brother Craig Miller and his wife Mary Lou; nieces and nephews Shawna Miller and William Miller and his wife Brandy,  Madalynn Hughes; great nieces and nephews Carson, Jaden, Constance, Kason, Samantha, Emalynn and Lainey; step nieces and nephews Victoria Sandlin and her husband Jared, Stephen Braack, Kevin Weast, Sam Braack and his wife Theresa, Jonathan Braack; and step great niece: Charlotte.  She was preceded in death by her mother and sister Allison Miller.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, at Allen Family Funeral Options.

If desired, contributions may be made in Laurie’s name to Alzheimer's Association, https://act.alz.org/donate or to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, https://afsp.org .
