Larry Carl Schroeder was born on August 7, 1948, in Litchfield, Illinois to Carl Henry and Lorraine Henrietta (Weyen) Schroeder. He went to be with our Lord on December 9, 2019, with his wife by his side at the age of 71.
Larry was named after his mother’s Coastguard nickname, “Larry.” He was the oldest of six siblings and they would say that he was their parent’s favorite!! Larry graduated from Litchfield High School in 1966, was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated with the Class of 1971. Larry served eight years in the Army in Colorado, Germany, and Fort Hood. During Larry’s time in the Army, he was stationed in Germany where he traveled all over Europe, attended the Cordon Bleu, enjoyed skiing in the Alps, and driving the Autobahn. Capt. Schroeder was honorably discharged from the Army and moved to Virginia. He worked in the United States Patent Office while attending American University to earn his Doctor of Jurisprudence. After graduating with a law degree, he moved to Richardson, Texas. Larry was a Patent Litigation Attorney for Texas Instruments until he retired in 2013.
Larry lived a bachelor’s lifestyle until 2002 when he married the love of his life, Leslie, and became a wonderful father to Jesse and Matthew. Larry loved weekends at their lake house on Lake Fork with his wife, family, and friends. He loved fishing from the dock while dreaming of catching Walter! Playing golf and watching baseball games, especially the Cardinals and Rangers were always on his to-do list. Larry loved more than anything, time with his family. He especially loved playing and watching his grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews, they called him Uncle Grandpa.
Larry is survived by his wife, Leslie Kyler Schroeder of Richardson, Texas, his daughter Jesse Mitchell of Wylie, Texas and son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Audray Moran of Carrizo Springs, Texas; grandchildren Sophia Mitchell (11), Jack Mitchell (8), Jayden Moran (4), Jorden Moran (2), and Annabelle Moran (8 months), siblings and spouses Lynn (Schroeder) and Barry Byrd, Sandy (Schroeder) and Mike Klump, Scott and Carol (Parnell) Schroeder, Brad and Shannon (Campbell) Schroeder, Lori (Schroeder) and Vincent Pierino, sister-in-laws Patricia (Kyler) DeHaven and Judi (Kyler) Pestrak, and nephews and nieces, Chris DeHaven, Kevin Schroeder, Matthew Klump, Nicole (DeHaven) Frost, Eric Schroeder, Lyndsy (Klump) Winstead, Breanne (Schroeder) Schnabel, Michael Pestrak, Sarah Schroeder, Tyler Klump, Vinnie Pierino, Cassie Pierino, and 17 great-nephews and nieces.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Carl Henry and Lorraine Henrietta (Weyen) Schroeder.
Larry’s heart and soul was the quiet, kind, and loving caretaker of each and every member of his family, from his parents, his wife and children, siblings and niece and nephews. Larry will be greatly missed but will be cherished in our hearts and memories forever. Cheers!
