Kyle Douglas Garner was born in Dallas, Texas on August 15, 1964. He passed away on October 16, 2021. Kyle attended schools in Garland, and graduated from North Garland High School in 1983, where he was a multiyear letterman in golf. Kyle then attended the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Soon after, Kyle decided to join the Navy. He successfully applied for Officer Candidate School, with recommendation letters from then-Senator Lloyd Bentsen. After graduating from OCS in Newport, Rhode Island, Kyle was assigned to the USS Merrimack in Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Virginia. Kyle was trained as a Supply Corps Officer, responsible for all financial transactions for the 230-person ship. Later, he was transferred to a submarine stationed in New Orleans for the duration of his 4-year career.
Kyle then began a 27-year career with what was then Southwestern Bell. His career path included being in Dallas, then San Antonio, then Atlanta. After that, he returned to San Antonio, then back to Dallas where he worked in the Corporate Treasury department of what had become AT&T until he retired at the end of 2019.
Kyle’s outside interests included following major sports, both college and professional including all things OU. He also played golf and followed the PGA tour. Kyle was active in an NFL Fantasy League every year with his friends. He loved following sports statistics, odds, etc.
Kyle became a cat lover for the last several years after taking in a cat from a family that could no longer care for it. Kyle fell in love with ‘Ashton,’ and always had a cat from then on. Kyle truly loved each of the three cats he had over the years.

Kyle is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Jackie Garner. He is survived by brother Richard Garner, his wife Shelly and their children, Eric, Jake, and Lauren; sister Barbara Winslett, her husband Mike and their children, Allison and Stephanie; and brother Scott Garner, his wife Karen and their children Kenny and Brandon.
The service in celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 29, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options. The family will greet friends at a visitation one hour prior to service time.
