Kwame Edusei Bandoh

August 6, 1949 — January 3, 2025

Kwame Edusei Bandoh was born on August 6th, 1949, in Jachie, a town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He was blessed with a nurturing family consisting of his father, Opanin Kwame Bandoh, and his mother, Madam Abena Atta Konadu. Both parents are fondly remembered for their love and guidance. Kwame was the second youngest among five siblings, growing up in a lively household filled with the energy and camaraderie of his brothers and sisters.

Kwame was known for his inquisitive nature from a young age, always eager to learn and explore the world around him. His curiosity often led him to the local theaters where he delighted in watching movies. Soccer games were another of his favorite pastimes, and he spent many hours either playing or watching the sport with immense enthusiasm.

For his primary education, Kwame attended Asem Boys Elementary School. His academic journey continued at Oda Secondary School, where his talents began to shine through. At Oda Secondary, a Peace Corps teacher noted Kwame's aptitude for STEM courses, recognizing his potential in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. However, Kwame chose to follow his passion for the arts, demonstrating his determination to carve his own path.

His educational journey continued at Adisadel College, one of the most prestigious secondary schools in Ghana, where he attended Sixth Form. Notably, Kwame's exceptional proficiency in French earned him the prize for the best student in the subject.

Following his success at Adisadel, Kwame continued his academic pursuits at the University of Ghana, Legon. There, he delved deeper into the fields of French and Linguistics to obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree, showcasing his enduring thirst for knowledge and intellectual curiosity.

Kwame's quest for education did not stop in Ghana. He crossed the Atlantic to the United States, enrolling at the University of North Texas (UNT). At UNT, he specialized in marketing and earned an MBA degree. During his graduate studies, Kwame's expertise and passion for French were recognized, leading to his appointment as a teaching assistant in the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, where he taught French to undergraduate students.

After achieving his MBA, Kwame embarked on a professional career at IBM Corporation. He joined the Marketing and Sales department and made significant contributions over a long period, leveraging his academic background and skills to excel in the corporate world. He later achieved great success in sales and finance in the automobile industry (both corporate and dealerships) at brands such as Ford, Volvo, and Land Rover.

Kwame valiantly battled many illnesses. He fought long and hard and demonstrated true resilience. His longtime primary care doctor nicknamed him “The Timex Man” after the 1970s Timex watch commercials in which it’s exclaimed “[He] Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking.” No matter what life threw his way, Kwame mustered up the strength and courage to carry on.

Kwame Edusei Bandoh’s life story is one of inspiration and passion. From his early days in Jachie to his academic pursuits, Kwame's journey illustrates the power of curiosity and the importance of pursuing one's true interests. His love for movies and soccer, combined with his determination to focus on the arts, highlights a man who embraced his passions wholeheartedly.
