Kenneth Alan Bryan was born on February 4, 1957 in Wilmington, Delaware, and died after being hospitalized for three weeks on June 21, 2023 at the age of 66 in Dallas, Texas.
Ken’s family moved to Montgomery, Ohio early in his life. He attended Sycamore High School, where he performed in the marching band and was an avid Boy Scout. Through Scouting and his experiences at Philmont High Adventure Camp, he grew from a boy to a man, and achieved the highest Boy Scout rank of Eagle Scout. After high school graduation, Ken chose to continue his studies at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He was a part of the Purdue All American Marching Band during his time there, graduating with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, Ken came to Dallas Texas to work for Texas Instruments (Raytheon). Through his knowledge and experience, Ken rose to leadership, becoming an Engineering Project Manager at Texas Instruments and Raytheon, then Nortel Communications, and Mustang Technology Group.
Ken met his sweetheart, Janet Ruth Carrell, while at Purdue. Upon her graduating as a registered nurse, they had a beautiful wedding on August 2, 1980 in Evansville, Indiana. After honeymooning in the Great Smoky Mountains, Janet joined Ken in Dallas. In 1981, they moved and made Plano, Texas their home. It was true love for their entire 42+ years of marriage.
As time passed, Ken and Janet became parents and raised three children. Ken always took time to participate in his children’s many activities, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Indian Princesses, Pinewood Derby, and many other school-related activities and projects. As a family, they loved playing card games with friends, taking camping and road trips, and enjoying beach vacations with their extended family members. Ken and Janet love music, enjoying season tickets at the Dallas Summer Musicals, as well as many concerts and symphony performances. They are avid fans of the Purdue and Dallas sports teams.
Being an Eagle Scout was a cornerstone of how Ken lived his life. He embodied each part of the scout law, that a scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. Ken always found a way to lend a helping hand to any neighbor or friend who needed him, as a handyman, plumber, chauffer, delivery man, baby-sitter, or a just a friend. He was regarded by many of his and Janet’s close friends as a second father figure for their children. When his Mother-in-law, Ruth Carrell needed help, Ken was always there to provide help like another son to her. The family attended Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas.
The wonderful Patriarch of our family will be so missed. Our grieving hearts are comforted though and assured by our faith that he is in heaven, enjoying reunions with those loved ones who have gone before him, and will be there to joyously welcome the rest of us when our time comes.
Ken was preceded in death by both his parents, John and Edna Bryan.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife of over 42 years, Janet (Carrell), and their three children, Stephen Bryan of Oklahoma, Julie Bryan of Ft. Worth Texas, and Patrick Bryan (Sarah) of Richardson, Texas.
Ken is also survived by his siblings Barry Bryan (Valerie) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Dawn Bristol (Greg) of Brooksville, Florida, as well as his Mother-in-law Ruth Carrell of McKinney, Texas, Brother-in-law David Carrell (April) of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Brother-in-law Mike Carrell (Mary) of McKinney, Texas, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
