Kay June Highsmith

February 28, 1942 — June 25, 2025

Plano

Kay June Highsmith, 83, was a beloved mother and “Meema.” She passed away on June 25, 2025, and was born on February 28, 1942, in San Francisco, California. She married her high school sweetheart, Norman Donaldson, soon after graduation and together they had 3 children. Though the marriage ended in divorce, she remarried and lived in Hawaii, then Midway Island and finally settled in Plano, Texas, living out the rest of her life surrounded by her children.

She’s been blessed to be a grandmother to 6 through her own children and 1 brought to her through the journey of life that she loved as her own. She was a proud great-grandmother of 10, always enjoying their pictures and talking about how much they grew. Kay was the heart and glue of the family, always concerned about her family before herself, even during her last hours.

Kay had a happy life and enjoyed spending time with her family most of all. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, taking trips to the zoo (loved the gorillas), and just watching the squirrels outside her living room window. Her grandkids depended on Meema to fix anything from a torn stuffed animal to hemming a dress…she saved the day for many beloved blankets! Kay was always eager to help in any way she could.

Kay is survived by her 3 children Stephanie Woods, Rob Donaldson and Mike Donaldson, 6 biological grandchildren Brittany Hamilton, Sarah Woods, Lauren Woods, Nicole Donaldson, Kristen Cervantes, and Zachary Donaldson, 1 bonus grandchild Mariam Ghanem, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed. Her jokes and her always asking if she can help. Her phrase "Yeah, but” or her “ohhh my gosh” will always ring in our ears. Her contagious laugh and her gift wrapping…always heavy on the tape! Her deviled eggs, and so much more. We love you, Mom. We adore you, Meema.

A visitation will be held from 1:00–3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Allen Family Funeral Options.
