Kathryn (Kathy) Irene Johnston

August 14, 1941 — January 8, 2025

Kathryn (Kathy) Irene Johnston, 83, went home to be with Jesus on January 8, 2025. Her first love was Jesus, and she looked forward to her eternal home and worshipping Christ with all of Heaven.

Kathy was born on August 14,1941, in Stillwater, Oklahoma to parents David and Margaret Franklin. She had two younger brothers Davy and Bob. Her family’s home held fun memories of backyard gatherings and croquet games in the family park.

Kathy loved teaching and graduated from Oklahoma State University with degrees in Family Relations\Child Development and Elementary Education.

Kathy met a handsome man named Jim at Glorieta Baptist Assembly in New Mexico. Their first date was climbing Old Baldy Mountain. Jim won her heart and the rest was history. The two were married on August 7, 1965, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage before Jim’s passing in November 2023.

Jim’s service in the Army took them to Germany. They travelled all over Germany in their Volkswagen Beetle. One of her favorite places to visit was the beautiful Neuschwanstein Castle. After several years, they returned to Texas, living in Houston and finally moving to Plano.

Being a wife and mother was Kathy’s calling. The Lord blessed her and Jim with two children, Matthew and Melinda. As a full-time mom, Kathy stayed active in PTA, carpool, Blue Birds, Boy Scouts, sports activities, trips to Colorado, Alaska and Hawaii, and caring for all the neighbors’ animals. At church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday School for 4 & 5 year olds, VBS, attending Ladies Bible Study and being on the Public Affairs Committee. Kathy enjoyed politics and standing with Right to Life issues and for the Unborn. For several years, she worked in the Dallas office of the Institute in Basic Life Principles.

Kathy loved having fun with her family and adored her grandkids. Many years of babysitting, playing games, eating at Country Burger and Taco Delite, swimming together in the neighbors’ pool, summer trips back home to Stillwater, celebrating birthdays and Christmases together made many happy memories and leaves an incredible legacy for her family.

Kathy is survived by her two children, Matthew Johnston and his wife Elizabeth; Melinda McGee and her husband Terry; her four grandchildren, Colton McGee and his wife Sarah Beth; Alyse McGee, Ainsley Johnston, Mitchell Johnston; her great grandson Cooper McGee; and her brother David Franklin III. She was preceded in death by her husband James (Jim)W. Johnston Jr, her parents David and Margaret Franklin and brother Robert Franklin.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Allen Family Funeral Options.

Kathy will be laid to rest with her husband at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2025, at the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery with Rev. JH Langley officiating.
