Kathleen passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born to Frank and Ruth Suessdorf in Houston, Texas on November 2, 1945.
Kathy spent her younger years and attended elementary school In Louisiana, Missouri, before moving with her family to St. Louis. There she attended the Riverview Gardens School District for Jr. High, and High School where she graduated in 1963. She developed a love for science, and began her college education at Washington University, St. Louis, graduating in 1967 with a BS in Zoology. Kathy continued her education at the Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Medical Technology until 1968 and upon graduation worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
Kathleen returned to St. Louis to work in Hematology research for several years, where she met lifelong friend, Dr. Benny Larson, who arranged for Kathy to work with her in an exchange program in Denmark. In 1975 Kathy returned to further her education at the University of Missouri, Columbia where she completed her MS in Clinical Microbiology in 1977 and met her future husband, W Lee Blevins. They were wed on September 4, 1976, when Lee undertook his lifelong task of taking very good care of his bride!
When Lee completed his master’s degree, the newlyweds moved to Pikeville Kentucky and then on to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1980.
In 1982, their daughter Aimee entered their lives with overwhelming love and completed their family. In 1994 Kathy earned a PHD in Epidemiology and Statistics and she shared her considerable knowledge by teaching as a clinical and research professor at Oklahoma University until her retirement in 2005.
Kathleen traveled to Norway and Italy while she was living in Denmark. She and Lee traveled extensively during their marriage. They made multiple trips to Scandinavia, Europe as well as Russia, Australia, New Zealand and Korea
Kathleen displayed her patriotism and love for her country by her active involvement in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as DAR chapter regent of the Oklahoma City Chapter in Oklahoma and later joined the Mary Shirley McGuire Chapter in Plano, Texas. She was also active in PEO in both McKinney and Plano, Texas. In retirement she worked as a volunteer docent at the George Bush Presidential center from 2022 - 2024.
Kathleen shared her love of Musical Theater with her daughter Aimee and thoroughly enjoyed attending the theater to experience touring shows as well as many wonderful performances in local theater groups starring Aimee.
Kathleen was totally devoted to her husband, Lee, proud of her role as mother to her beloved daughter, Aimee, welcomed her son-in-law, Jeremy with open arms, and was overjoyed with the birth of her granddaughter, Addison, whom she showered with gifts and lots of love! Kathy enjoyed showering every one of her relatives with gifts - her sister, Melissa, her great nephews, all her cousins and their kids, and anyone else she could think of! She especially enjoyed sending everyone Hallmark ornaments, based on each and everyone’s personal interests.
Kathleen is survived by her husband W Lee Blevins, daughter Aimee Mahoney and son-in-law Jeremy Mahoney, granddaughter Addison Mahoney, sister Melissa Lindner and husband, Michael.
A private graveside service will be held at Bellefontaine Cemetery, St. Louis Missouri on August 4, 2025.
