Judith Bryant Hughes

March 10, 1941 — September 27, 2025

Plano

Judith Bryant Hughes went to be with her savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 27, 2025, after complications due to a recent fall. She was born in Sherman, Texas on March 10, 1941, to parents Charles Stanly Roberts, Jr. and Kathleen Stevenson Roberts. Judith had a happy childhood and graduated from Sherman High School in 1959. She attended Texas Christian University for two years before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin. Following her graduation in 1963, she moved to Dallas and worked as a buyer for Sanger Harris Department Store before marrying John Anthony Bryant in 1965. They lived in Austin, Sherman & Whitewright before settling in Richardson, Texas in 1974, where they lived most of their married life. Judith and John raised two daughters, and she was a homemaker for most of this time. She also volunteered with her daughters' schools and activities, civic groups and her beloved church, First Baptist Richardson. Judith worked for Michael Deppe CPA, Bill Weathersby & Associates, and for many years at Helsley Roofing Company. In 1999, her husband, John, passed away and her life shifted dramatically.

After some time, Judith found love again with Ronald Hughes and they were married in 2008. She and Ron blended a new family, gaining daughters and grandchildren on both sides. They enjoyed traveling together, watching their grandchildren grow up and supporting one another in all ways.

Judith was the epitome of a true southern lady and an example of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs, Chapter 31. She was a shining example of love, patience, character, and service. An active member of First Baptist Church Richardson for 51 years, Judith served in many leadership roles and ministries including being a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, a member of a Pastor Search Committee, a Personnel Committee and the inaugural Church Council, a participant in the Appletree Nursing Home and Austin Street Shelter ministries, the Goldenaires choir and as a Greeter on Sunday mornings. Judith believed that when the church doors opened, you should be there. Christ and His Church were her greatest focus. Judith also enjoyed her involvement in the Junior League of Richardson, Kappa Alpha Theta, and several book clubs and birthday groups. Most of all, Judith cherished time with her family and multitude of friends.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Ronald Clifford Hughes, sister Janet Roberts Haynes of Ocala, Florida, daughters Eva Bryant Shank (John) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Suzanne Bryant Hollon (Bryan) of Beaver, Pennsylvania, Peggy Hughes Shriver (Ron) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Ronda Hughes Wang (Andrew) of Houston, Texas,; eight grandchildren Jeremy Shank (Rachel), Sarah Shank Corscadden (Chris) and Kathleen Shank of Birmingham, Alabama, Harrison Hollon (Paxton) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Claire Hollon of Charleston, South Carolina, John Hollon of Columbus, Ohio, Christopher Berg of Atlanta, Georgia, Kaelan Wang of Houston, Texas; and two great-grandchildren Jackson and Fletcher Shank of Birmingham, Alabama. Judith was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband of 33 years, John Anthony Bryant.
