Joyce Banks Bunting

Joyce Banks Bunting, 88, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, in McKinney, Texas. She lived a life devoted to her family. She was kindhearted and loving to everyone she met.

Joyce was born in Knox City, Texas on December 3, 1937, to Clayton and Opal Banks. Joyce spent her early childhood in Knox City, then Longview before moving to Grand Prairie, Texas. Upon graduating from Grand Prairie High School in 1956, Joyce attended Texas Wesleyan College where she was voted Junior Class Favorite. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1959. Upon college graduation, she began teaching elementary school in Grand Prairie just across the street from her childhood home.

Joyce met a handsome young Aggie named David Bunting on a blind date in July 1957. After David was able to convince her to go out with him, they began dating and married on June 11, 1960. Joyce taught school in Bryan, Texas, while David completed his master’s degree in physics at Texas A&M University.

Their first child Laurie was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1962 while David served in the Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB. Their second child Amy was born in Dallas in 1965, and their son Bill was also born in Dallas in 1968. The family made numerous moves over the years. Their homes in Texas included Richardson, Plano, Denton, El Paso and McKinney. They also lived in Poughkeepsie, New York, Dayton, Ohio, Budd Lake, New Jersey, and Tucson, Arizona. In each new city, Joyce made their home feel welcoming and inviting for their family and friends. Joyce was an active stay at home wife and mother, often volunteering at school and church, driving multiple children to various lessons, practices and events, while also managing Bill’s numerous medical appointments, surgeries and procedures over the years. Joyce was an accomplished cook, baker, hostess, seamstress, home decorator and friend. For dinner she always had a home cooked meal prepared as the family gathered around the table. She was an amazing wife to David and an outstanding mom to Laurie, Amy and Bill. She loved her family well in her words and actions.

Joyce and David and family were active members in many churches over the years, including being involved in starting two new churches, one in Budd Lake, New Jersey and the other in Plano, Texas. She taught children in Bible classes, served in Vacation Bible School and often hosted gatherings in her home. She and David and Bill have been attending First United Methodist Church in McKinney since 2010.

Her love for Jesus, His Church, her family, and friends were Joyce’s greatest joys in life.

Joyce is survived by David, her devoted husband of 66 years, daughter Laurie Weesner and husband Johnny, daughter Amy Storrie and husband Jimmy, and son Bill; grandchildren Landon Weesner and wife Leslie; granddaughters Leah Foote and husband Marshall;

Shelby Massey and husband Jordan; Joy Stone and husband Brady; Hallie Horn and husband Michael; great grandchildren: Jayce, Eli, Zane, Ivy, Luna Weesner; Scarlett Foote; Ellis & Owen Horn, Dallas & Walker Stone, Scotland Massey; Sister Carolyn Robinson; brother-in-law Calvin Pigg; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family finds comfort and peace in knowing that Joyce is now in the presence of Jesus, and that we will see her again one day. Her life, love and legacy will live on through her family and all who knew her.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Allen Family Funeral Options.

A memorial service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, McKinney, Texas, officiated by Dr. Tommy Brumett.
