“Be kind to each other, tender hearted and forgiving one another, just as Christ has forgiven you”
Ephesians 4:32
Joshua Reuben Casey was born on April 21, 1982 to his loving parents John David Casey and Leah Gail Owens Casey. His beautiful, sweet life began shortly after we were married and already in pilot training at Reese Air Force Base, in Lubbock Texas. Being our first-born child, he bore the brunt of every Air Force assignment and move. He moved 14 times in 20 years and eventually settled to Carrollton Texas in 2001.
Most biographies and obituaries read like a “who’s who” list for what they have done, or where they attended school and what degree they have earned, or list what they have achieved in life, but in 1986, Josh’s life credits start to mount up in different ways that were unimaginable. At the young age of 4 years old Josh was diagnosed with a medulloblastoma brain tumor. Surgery was performed at Ft Bliss Army Medical Center in El Paso Texas to remove the tumor followed by another surgery to put in a VP shunt. Then, he completed a full course of whole brain and spine radiation. Josh started going to the loving arms of MD Anderson for a consultation that same year and has returned ever since. He also went to numerous clinics and hospitals throughout his father’s career and battled several medical conditions to include hearing loss, growth hormone deficiencies, thyroid cancer, skin cancer in the ear, a spinal cord tumor and the onslaught of more brain tumors in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2014, and 2019 and the one that took his physical life in 2020/2021. In the middle of struggling back to work in 2016, he suffered a stroke but still got back to work after a year of therapy. He would face each crisis with courage, dignity and faith, and believed he would always get better and go back to a “normal” life. He never gave up, he did not retreat, and he just kept going in his own simple way.
As for work, Josh was a long time “hamburger consultant” for Michaels Charcoal Grill in Midland Texas. He also worked for Fazoli’s, a Cinemark Theater, a Neighborhood Walmart in Carrollton Texas, a Whataburger, and then back to Super Walmart in West Plano.
Josh loved to read! Most of all he loved reading his bible!!! He also loved Hank the Cowdog, Calvin and Hobbes and History books, mainly military aviation history and books on military aircraft.
Whether he knew it or not, he touched the lives of countless individuals with his courage, perseverance, and faith. Most importantly, he brought hope to overcome any circumstance, any hurt, or any setback, through faith in Christ Jesus. We were so thankful and proud to be his caretaker before God called him home to heaven.
“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa
