Joseph Guilfoyle Owens, known affectionately as Joe, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024. Born on December 6, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Loretta Guilfoyle and Joseph Andrew Owens.
Joe graduated from St. Francis High School in 1957. He proudly served in the United States Army before dedicating 37 years to his career with Xerox.
Joe met the love of his life, Irene, in 1966. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married in 1967 in Brooklyn, New York. Together they raised their two children, Joseph and Courtney. Joe was a devoted husband and father, and his family was the cornerstone of his life.
An avid reader of spy novels, Joe also enjoyed running, traveling, and building models. He was known for his love of all things culinary, storytelling, and his unfiltered quick wit (especially with the nurses during his hospital stays).
Fondly known as Grampy, he loved nothing more than doting on his five grandchildren, Christian, Margeaux, Grayson, Claudia, and Ellis, and his grandpups Riley, Rocky, and Piper Belle. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his children, grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His stories, wisdom, and the warmth of his company will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; children Joseph (Claudia) Owens, of Boerne, Texas; Courtney Owens Johnson of Aledo, Texas; grandsons Christian and Grayson Owens of Boerne, Texas; and granddaughters Margeaux, Claudia, and Ellis Johnson of Aledo, Texas.
All are invited to share memories and celebrate Joe’s life at an Evening of Remembrance from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Allen Family Funeral Options.
A mass will also be held in his honor at noon, Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church located at 1914 Ridgeview Dr, Allen, Texas 75013.
Following the mass, Joe will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name be made to The National Alliance to End Homelessness, an organization Joe felt strongly about. https://endhomelessness.org/
