Joseph "Joe" Arnett

February 20, 1954 — July 16, 2019

Joseph E. “Joe” Arnett was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at 4:00 a.m. He passed away at his home after a long and difficult battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Joe was born in Memphis, Tennessee on February 20, 1954 to parents Omar and Genevieve (Edwards) Arnett. He graduated from Fairley High School in Whitehaven, Tennessee; attended Christian Brothers University in Memphis, and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Joe went on to attend The University of North Texas, in Denton, where he obtained his master’s degree in Chemistry.

Joe married Bobbie Amos on June 7, 1986. He was a faithful husband and treasured his wife of 33 years. On July 22, 1988, their family was complete and filled with joy as they welcomed their beautiful daughter Kathryn Marie. Kathryn was the apple of his eye and he was her biggest fan. Kathryn married Jonathan Lawson on May 12, 2018. Joe cherished the ability to walk his daughter down the aisle even while fighting for his life against cancer

Joe was always eager to share that he never had a job interview his whole life. Upon graduation from UNT in 1980 Joe began his student teaching at Plano Senior High School. Within weeks, he took over the teaching position after his supervising teacher “just stopped coming to work.” Now, a full-time teacher, Joe went on to teach Chemistry and Physics for over a decade. He piloted a new program called “Active Physics” which sought to teach students a more creative and hands-on way of learning. He loved that! His favorite things about teaching were inspiring students and “seeing the lightbulb go on” when they began to understand the concepts of Physics. Joe transferred to Plano West Senior High School when it opened in 2000. He enjoyed being a sponsor of the West Wolves’ Robotics Club. Joe retired from teaching in 2011, after 32 years in education.

During his teaching career, Joe started working in the summer learning landscape architecture! Landscape design was Joe’s artistic outlet. Always the consummate student, he learned to prune trees, install irrigation and design ornamental landscape. Joe loved being outside enjoying God’s creation. His favorite tree was the Japanese Maple; and he so enjoyed going to the Dallas Arboretum in the fall to see the beautiful colors of their trees. Joe enjoyed working with his many clients, restoring the beauty to their yards. It brought him great joy.
Bobbie and Joe went to Israel with Lamb and Lion Ministries in 1995. As a result of that trip, Joe grew in his love for studying the Bible, especially the prophesies about Israel and the Lord Jesus.

Joe was loved by so many and will be dearly missed. During his battle with cancer, Joe’s faith gave him the strength to remain positive; fighting with everything he had. Even during the final weeks of his life, he was kind and never uttered a complaint. As long as he had strength in his body, he had a smile on his face.

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 5:23

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
2 Timothy 4: 7
